you can find 302's anywhere... they might as well be raining down in junk yards (as someone else noted). It really depends on how much money your buddy has to spend. I prefer the sn95 body style, but the modular motors are a bit more efficient then the old 302's... I've had both. But, if he's got the money to get a new car, then he should have the cash to drop on a really nice motor. Check out FordStrokers.com 331-347-393-408-418-427 stroker kits and ford parts. and get a block built that he might be able to afford. Just my opinion.

-I should also note, that getting a car re-painted is not cheap! So that might effect how much he spends on the motor. Mine is in the paint shop right now getting re-painted (I should be getting her back tomorrow, I'll post pics!!!!!) and the job I'm getting is costing me more than my car is even worth! So keep that in mind too...

will what are you having done change colors? and how much did it cost you? Just curious cause we did a color change on mine the guy removed the motor and wiring from under the hood, took off the doors and fenders and trunk and anything else possible and completely painted everything even the rotors and calipers just wondering what it goes for there. Oh and the paint turned out like glass without putting a buffer to it not one spot of orange peel. Probably the best job I have ever seen.

95stangMX,
How much did that job cost you??? Sounds like a lot of work... I'm not doing a color change. I'm keeping it red... it's a completely different looking red than whats on there in all my pics on here. The job is going to cost me about $4600. It should be ready for pick up tomorrow... I've got the absolute best shop within 200 miles painting it - Georges Body Shop in Lexington Park, MD. I'll get some pics up as soon as I can once I get the car back.

I paid 1600 for mine. but keep in mind I am in mexico and the guy that did it wanted to use my car and truck (which he painted also) for his advertisements in some magazine ads he would have normally charged about 3000 which is still a killer deal especially since I have never seen anyone that paints this good. It probably would have cost me about 5-6000 in the states you could never tell the car was originally black

If you are still considering it, and you have the money, I would buy a 351 at the junkyard, alot of the old F-150's had them, and they were fuel injected. It also depends what you have already done to your motor, with the 351 though, you'll have to get different headers, a new intake manifold, and a couple other part, you will probably also need a cowl or cobra R hood to fit it in there. I had a buddy a while back who put all the stuff that he had on his 5.0L on a 351, and he made about 360hp.

I love the 5.0 so my vote is a new or rebuilt 302. My current motor finally let go so I've started rebuilding another short block. I bought it from a guy with a 91 gt. Mind you i disassembled the block down and sent it out to be reworked. I basically got back a new engine and parts with all the rite size bearings and rings. If he wants to keep the 5.0 and keep cost down have him reuse his stock block and bottom end. It'll all need to be reworked at an engine shop. At this time he can search for a set of cheap gt-40 heads and intake. A big improvement for the new heads is a basic valve job and new springs and seals. Doing this would be cheaper then getting a newer 99+ motor and would really improve hp#'s.

My car put down 279hp at the rear. I have a stock bottom end with gt-40 heads with Crane 1.7 rockers. A BBK-SSI intake with a 70mm TB and CAI. Still using stock 19# injectors. Full exhaust=shortie headers, offroad X pipe, Magnaflow race mufflers with dumps.
