5.0 potential
Hello everyone, I'm from the modular world. I've been curious lately about the 5.0's. How much horsepower are these motors capable of making with full bolt on's and a cam? I know that with the 4.6 2v it is a real struggle to make 350 N/A horsepower. With my 96' 4.6 2v I would have to do a head swap, intake manifold swap, new cams, and full bolt on's to get past 300 hp. What kind of numbers are yall getting from your Naturally Asperated 5.0's?

You can find some good heads for cheap on the 5.0
Get some Explorer GT-40P heads $300 Simple cam swap $150 Long tubes Better intake $300 MAF and TB $300 make 260-270rwhp. Better heads like $1,000 twisted wedges will bump you real close to the 300rwhp mark. They like boost too. Simple single turbo kit for about $2,500 on bone stock engine will hit 400rwhp. Doing head swaps on the 5.0 motor is a breeze, night and day easier than working on the mod-motors, which require engine being pulled.

+1 on what r.barn said...
It is a lot easier (and cheaper) to build n/a horsepower out of a 5.0 then the modular motors. working on those 4.6's is a pure PITA compared to working on these pushrod motors. Below I've copied and pasted part of a thread from the Corral, to show you that it's really not that hard to hit that 350 hp mark... the OP is "Pure Stock" : 5.0L N/A stock shortblock H/C/I dyno #'s and VID. Had the chance to wring out the ole' 5-Liter on the dyno this past weekend. The combination is not changed since the outing last October that produced a 10.76@123.63. This is a 302 N/A OEM stock shortblock sporting ported TFS T.W.'s, off the shelf hydraulic roller cam, and an out of the box Holley Systemax II intake. A Ford Motorsport Extender eliminates the 6,250 rev-limiter. No other tuning is employed in the combo (besides adjustable fuel press. reg. and advancing base timing) SAE RWHP 344.81 SAE RWTQ 335.17 * 10.76 tune *After making some adjustments on the dyno (eliminating alt. belt and altering induction piping we arrived at the highest numbers of the day. SAE RWHP 351.99 SAE RWTQ 344.63 STD RWHP 360.04 STD RWTQ 352.51 ![]() Here is a video of one of the pulls. http://videos.streetfire.net/search/...ee018623d0.htm

Wow, thats impressive. Your right, 4.6's are a pain. The 5.0 seems so simple and striaght forward.

cuz that's exactly what it is... simple and straight forward. i mean, it's been around the block a few times (lol, like, forever...)
are you thinking about a swap into your 96? or buying another car or what?

Maybe, thinking about selling my 96 and finding a 94 or 95 in better condition with less miles. I think I could make the same or more power with the 5.0 for less $. Plus the 5.0 have real metal intake manifolds not that cheap plastic crap like the 4.6's.

I'm curious as to why you don't care for the plastic intake? Seems to make sense to me, it's lighter than aluminum, and doesn't transmit heat to your intake charge. So long as it's strong enough to not melt or break from the vibration, it seems to me to be the hot ticket.

Well, they crack. Ford so called fixed the cracking issue but I had the revised intake and I still had to replace it. The coolant just deteriorated the plastic around the aluminum coolant tube. Also if you run nitrous and you have a backfire your manifold could crack and bust.

yeah mine cracked too - and my 02 gt only had 50k on it! engine + plastic just didn't work out for me. i guess i'm biased about it because i had to deal with coolant getting everywhere, but i know some never bust so i guess it's luck-of-the-draw.

I have to put looking on hold now for a while. Have to pay off some bills and didn`t get back as much as I thought I was from income tax. But i would love to have another 95 GT. I`m abit confused on what body style I want again. My next one will hopefully be my last one...

What year was your last mustang? What all did you have done to it to get it in the 11's?

Do you have the dyno sheet and the full specs of that build? Edit: never mind. Found the thread 5.0L N/A stock shortblock H/C/I dyno #'s and VID. - Corral Forums

It was a 91 hatchback. It had a 342 with x-303 cam,30lb injecters,75mm throtle body with spacer,80 mas air, edlebrock performer heads with stage 3 porting(no idea what they flowed),Edlebrock victor manifold port matched to the heads. It also had 410 gears and a 5-speed.
