Looking to Help Out A Friend w/ A 5.0
Ok i've got a buddy that has a 95 5.0, that he has an ungodly amount of bolts ons for. However, his 1/4 time doesnt show as much as it could. I would like to see him get some lower E/Ts...maybe it's a tuning problem?
Here's what i know of that he has: Cam BBK T/B Edlebrock intake manifold shorty headers O/R X pipe Triax S/T Intake U/D pullies NITROUS 3.73 Gears New Block (at some point--pretty sure it's same displacement) 315 Tires 1/4: between 14.5 and 15.5 Maybe he has one or two bolt ons more than i mentioned but that's all i know for sure. Any suggestions? All help appreciated, Thx guys. |

need a lot more info than that to get started but something doesn't sound right given the basic mods/times.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() he is probably blowing the tires out through third gear...especially if he's spraying... tell him to get some SEAT TIME, D/R's, Control Arms, Subframes, etc.

something is not right. Its probably the tires, he should be able to run better than that with just nitrous.

i'm gonna guess with the others that it's a traction problem... is it an AODE or a t5 tranny?
if he is launching on spray, i guarantee he's spinning all first, probably most of second, and maybe chirping third since he's got 3.73's. The best things he could do would be to: -replace his Rear Lower Control Arms with an aftermarket set (MM or Steeda) -Replace his Upper Control Arm bushings (keep the stock arms) -If he's got 315 tires, he probably took his quad shocks off... put those back on and get some wheel spacers (quad shocks will prevent any wheel hop - they will help to stop axle bind up) -Weld in subframe connectors -Some drag radial tires -and LEARN HOW TO F'N DRIVE! with those mods he should be in the 13's, and depending on how much he's spraying, it should be LOW 13's... Maybe you could help your buddy out and give him some advice for how to get himself down the track... hope this helps! Will

Alright, i just remembered from you guys mentioning it that he has welded subframe connectors. And the tires are either 305s or 315s, so i'm not sure about those quad shock thingies.
he's got a 75 shot i believe, WOT, sprayed from the intake. Also, please note that he does absolutely NO work to his car. he drives it down to a shop in florida and has the 'do it up'. well, i think they may be doing him up on the bill and not the work. Problem is, we switched cars once cuz i thought he just sucked at driving. Granted, it was my first time in a 5.0 in about 3 yrs (had a 94 ) and also my first time in his car, and also my first time running spray. i ran a 15.8!!!! lol but the thing is, i know his car HAS to be faster. This is why i think it might be a tuning problem. He tells me, without spray, it put out around 220rwhp and around 280ish on spray....that doesnt make sense?? also, to support you guys thinking he needs the driver mod, not sure cuz we only did one pass in each others cars and i don't usually get to see him run cuz i'm in line too. the pass before that, i ran a 13.0 in my car, and he ran a 14.9 just seconds after me, but also, it was his first time in an s197, so it's expected. |

do you know what cam he's running? if you seriously think its an issue with the car, then there could be a lot of problems... stock injectors/fuel pump could be failing, a/f might be way off, the cam might be hurting it more than helping it (without a tune), he should probably be seeing more than 220rwhp with those mods, so somethings probably up. you could try taking it to a well known tuner in your area and have him run it on a dyno and work it out. or, you guys just suck azz at driving his car.

What heads is he running? All the intake goodies you mentioned he has will only flow as much as the largest bottle neck, which is the heads. If he has stock E7 heads and a large cam, he could actually lose horsepower and torque for most of the power-band. What's his fuel pressure with the vacuum line off?

He has stock heads (to his knowledge)
IMO, if i were him i would change the plugs, new fuel pump/injectors, run that C foam or whatever thru it, put in some good oil, clean the air filter, get a GOOD tune on it and i think he should see better results. Also, he says there's a problem with his shifter. he says it's a Triax, and when i drove it, it feels like youre shoving a stick in a bucket of Lego's.... |

+1 on what Ryno said. Beefmobile, I would suggest what you just did (do a regular tune up) to him and then see where it goes.

hey guys, i'm beefmobile's buddy with the 5.0, i have another thread on here that says track problems, check it out. i have some of my time slips, i just can't remember what they say, i really appreciate what beefy is doin. it proly is a driver mod, i just go out there and have fun, but i'd like to see some nice times too. only reason i don't do my own work (i can, i just choose not to) it is my daily driver and if i screw something up and the car explodes ima cry.... lol so i take it to Blow By Racing and they've done most of the tuning and wrench time for me.
