Not sure. The egr is off at idle and wot. Can you describe the symptoms better? Typically with too much egr you will feel it at part throttle as kind of a shuffle.

i wish i knew i'm leaning towards the egr in mine as well, i posted another post in the 5.0 section a few mins ago, about my problems, i've replaced pretty the whole fuel system and ignition system. and still the same symptoms but at wide open throttle it runs fine most of the time. but at crusing speeds it will sputter at random. no particular rpm seems to set it off. Just at random, yet it can be sputtering the whole time and i can push the clutch in and it'll rev up fine. Sometimes i have a problem with it starting i'll have to sometimes hold the throttle just a lil bit for about 15 seconds when i 1st start in in the morning or the car will die sometimes, The motor shakes at idle. sometimes so bad that the car is shaking. as far as that popping noise it doesn't happen very often at all but occasionally when its sputtering if you give it full throttle to even it out sometimes you can hear it pop...does that sound simlilar to your issue??

take the cats off and see if the problem goes away. Check the laws in your state if the inspection for emissions is visual then take them off and hollow them and put them back on. I used to have a long extension for a air ratchet that I welded some blades (kinda like arrowheads) and I could hollow them out in just a few seconds.

yeah as long as you dont have emissions testing, and if you do just swap it back and forth, keep the old one with cats for when you have to get checked
