Fuel Tank Replacement
My son wrecked his 95 Gt and I need to replace his fuel tank.
Anything special I need to be aware of? |

Nah it's a piece of cake. It's heavy when there's gas in it though.

The fuel pump was fine before the accident. Should i consider replacing it at this time? Money is a slight issue for him right now!

I wouldn't worry with it if your doing the work yourself and don't mind pulling the tank back out to change it if it's bad. As long as the pump didn't get beat on or the tank run dry while the car was running then it's probably fine. Just change the sock on it.

Rassum, frasumm......*%^%$#@!! Fuel lines! I know there's probably a tool that should help get the lines off the tank, but is there a way without the tool?

Yeah... cut a piece of shim stock or an old piece of feeler gage that you can wrap around the fuel line, then push it into the connector. it just needs to be rigid enough to spread the tangs. Mine didn't take much preasure at all once I figured out how they work.

When you push it in, does it push the tabs out, or compress them? That might help me get the size of the shim correct.

It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure it compresses the inner fitting. Much like a Quick disconnect air fitting works. It didn't take much more than finger preasure. I bought the tool but couldn't get it in there. the feeler stock worked the best.
