Tune needed after cylinder head install???

well, i'm going to install my cylinder heads that i've had sitting in my garage for the past month and a half. i'm wondering, would i need to get my car tuned afterwards?? i'm just curious, i haven't heard of getting your car tuned after a cylinder head install, but i'm just making sure. also, if anyone knows any good shops in the tampa area, i'd love to know, i'm new to tampa and i'm stationed at macdill. thanks everyone!

Hey whats up man, how do you like MacDill?? I ma org from FL, would be nice to get stationed their lol. As far as tune, after all your mod it is always good nature to tune your car, once i get my H/C/I done with supporting mods I am going to tune it so it runs good and hey you get some ponies too. I would wait till most if not all your mods are done though.

How long you been in?

A tune is always the best way to get the most out of your mods, but spending $500 for one after just swapping heads isn't necessary. Our cars really only NEED a tune after you mess with the cam. If you're just doing heads, don't worry about it.

No, not necessary at all. Being that it is a 94-95 car I would suggest spending the money on a tune at some point though. There is some performance to be gained in a tune on those cars.

A 302 has a 4.00 bore and a 3.00 stroke. A 306 is a 302 bored .030 (4.030 bore x 3.00 stroke). A 331 has a 4.030 bore and a 3.25 stroke. A 347 has a 4.030 bore and a 3.40 stroke.

Yes, tune for sure if you increase displacement or add a cam.

Because he said the engine was bored .030 and mentioned nothing about the stroke. If the engine is just bored .030 and retains the stock stroke then it is a 306.

well, i don't know if has the stock stroke or not. so as far as i know, its a 306. and right now, it seems like its lean, i'm not sure, everytime i give it some gas, it starts to hesitates a bit and feels like its goin to stall or at least heading that way. i have the stock 19# injectors, is that a problem with a 306 and the mods i have??? or should i upgrade to 24# and tune it???

No, your injector size isn't causing the problem. You have problems elsewhere. I would start with the plugs and wires.

plugs are brand new, wires are around 6 months old or less. i'm going to get it dyno tuned and see if the problem persists. the car didn't have this problem until i put the heads on.

Did you have the heads checked for cracks, resurfaced and have a valve job done before you put them on?

yup, i did, and it cost me $1100 for resurfacing, port and polish and new springs, which by the way were to stiff for my hydrolic cam... that could be my prob, but i'm not sure, i put the stock springs back on.
