Creaky Steering

So I've traced the creeking noise emanating from my steering to the steering rack bolts. I've replaced the rubber bushing with hardened plastic bushings and the creaking continues. If I oil the bolts the creaking seizes for maybe 20 miles. Is it really possible that the mounting bolt is causing this?

It's the bolt. As i said, i can put a little oil on the bolt and it's nut and washer and the creaking stops for maybe 20 miles. i'm going to take the bolt out sometime soon and i'll keep this thread updated.

Coated the steering rack bolts and filled the bolt holes with grease. Seems to have rectified the problem, for now.

The passenger side bolt appeared to have a little grease on the threads. But the driver side bolt, which was the one squeaking, was dry.

You should replace those bolts with new pieces and be sure to grease them all around - as you've done. But use new bolts.
