How to cam an engine.

How do I cam my engine and what are the parts that I need to do so? I have a 1995 gt 5.0 with under drive pulleys, long tube headers with a mac mid pipe, and a magnapack exhaust. I also have cold air intake. What do I need to cam my engine?

first off you need a cam!!! Yeah there is no point of putting a cam in a stock head car. What is it you are wanting to achieve? I mean why a cam next? Probably just heard someone say "you should cam it" or some other comical remark I am sure but tell us what you are wanting and I will try to help

A different cam isn't going to do you much good in a stock engine.

To answer your question, you call Camshaft Innovations and tell Jay what your set up is and he will grind you a cam.

Or you can buy some off the shelf junk if you are happy with mediocre performance.

You wont see much, if any at all, hp improvement if you put a cam in a car with stock heads... Don't bother wasting money on a cam right now. Your first purchase should be a new set of heads...

I understand what I pay for is what I get, I was looking to spend around 600-800 on one. Any good ones I can get for that price? And what is the horsepower gain?

Yes either of those lts would work with GT40P heads... But for $800 you could probably find a used set of Trick Flow Twisted Wedges or AFR 185's. Those would be your best choices IMO. With either of those heads and a good intake you could see up to a 50rwhp gain.

Not my first choice..a little small..and they are bare.........going to have to buy all the parts, you are better off getting them assembled....and that price is for one
