Surges

So, my car has been getting bad gas milage, not sure if its cause of running ac more, or what. Also it has been surging and running rough at idle. No codes been trown recently, just replaced plugs and air cleaner. You guys have any suggestions?? Oh and should I be able to feel heat coming up though my consol after driving around for a while.

Okay lets see, it flashed codes earlier this year, but it stopped eventually. Well i ran ac a few times and my gas milage droped from 18-20 to 15-17. Also the idle surges just a tad when sitting at a stop sign, and it likes to die on me in reverse sometimes. But it suns fairly well. Ive only had it a few months. Could it need o2 sensors??

^Agreed, try taking it off and cleaning it with some carb cleaner and cuetips or somthing. I did it to my old car and the surge stopped. Also might wana clean MAF while your under the hood.

15-17 is average for these cars...you were lucky to see 18-20. IAC should be your first check about the idle.

well with your ac on your car is going to lug alittle at the stop sign but only for a few seconds and then when the compressor kicks in it should tell the car to jump the idle up to 1100 to 1300 rpms

it shouldnt be dieing in reverse unless you arent giving it gas lol, as soon as i let the clutch out in reverse i dont ever have to touch the gas again, just the brake for the most part lol

mine doesn't idle very well with the a/c on as well... as stated, the idle is supposed to jump up when the compressor kicks on... is this not happening a result of a bad or dirty IAC? what senses that the compressor is on?
