"1995 saw the introducion of the Mustang GTS, which was designed to be a lightweight, "barebones" car with the power of a GT. The GTS was basically a base mustang with the 215 horsepower 5.0L V8 thrown in. This was to keep the car light, which would aid in handling and acceleration. 6,370 Mustang GTS's were produced."

found that on american muscles website...

i was told that the gts was made becuase they had a lot of leftover 5.0's before they went into 96 to install the 4.6 liters. So they made a gts to use the rest of the 5.0's and save money by not putting all of the gt upgrades

someone probably bashed out your back window and didnt want to pay for the one with the defroster so they just put in the cheap one genius! why is everyone so crazy over wanting their cars to be the gts piece....be glad its not, they are not special, they are built out of leftovers....

i don't think thats the case...now i know they were left outta left over parts...but my friend had a 97 GT that was infact a GTS, so it wasn't just built to use up the extra 5.0's, they continued using 5.0's in explorers and mountaineers after 95.

HUH? Here is a link I found on google...its a great site some of you should try it out. You put in the subject you are looking for and it pulls up info on it. The gts was basically a based out mustang gt built for affordability.
and could be upgraded upon request.

i think part of it was for insurance purposes...they were less expensive than the GT. it was fords attempt to make an all around affordable sports car. the title says GT/GTS but the insurance rates are cheaper on the GTS...i dont think the VIN number specified which one it was except with the fully loaded GT....and i wish i didnt have a rear defrost..it was hell scraping the old tint glue off while trying not to mess up the defrost lines....but i have never seen a GTS with leather.

please explain why a GT with no power accessories or defrost was cheaper for insurance? that makes absolutely no sense at all. its still a GT no matter what. for any car insurance is based on the year and the engine that was in it (for the most part). so how can the same year mustang have cheaper insurance with the same engine?
