1995 5.0L Cobra Mustang 5.4L Engine Swap
I have a 1995 5.0L Cobra Svt Mustang, I would really like to swap the engine out for a 5.4L Shelby Gt500 Engine but I don't know if it would be a straight fit. Can anyone tell me if it would be a straight fit, and if its not a straight fit what would I have to do to modify it and make it fit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well first off I just want to make it a lot faster, one of my friends has a 92 that he just recently bought that had a shelby gt500 engine in it and that thing just gos. I am not sure where I would get the engine yet I need to know what I would have to do before I even start planning on the actaul engine swap.

That would be a mean swap - but I have no idea if you could make it work. With an endless amount of money, you can do anything, but that's what you need - $$$ Do you know that the GT500 engine itself is like $12000???

Yeah it would definately be a powerful car, I am not sure if i would rather wait a year or 2 and buy a 03-04 Cobra Svt and have a very powerful car to start with or if I want to buy the Engine, Exhaust package and make my current car amazing. I have a while before I'm going to have even close to enough money for either of these. I just want to do some research before I start anything.

You could spend half as much money on your current engine and make it faster than a gt500 engine.

+1 on wanting to see pics, I've seen foxbodies with Terminators, but never an SN95 with a GT500 motor (is it at GT500 motor, or is at GT40 motor?).
I'll be blunt, though, I think this is a stupid idea. For one, I'd get a GT to do this to, not a Cobra. Everything that makes that Cobra special, other than the badges and VIN, is gonna have to be swapped out to do this right. For two, you can get 540 crank hp a lot easier and cheaper than swapping in the mod motor. As was said above, the GT500 motor alone will cost you over $10k. For that much money you could build a twin-turbo 408 that would probably push over 800hp, or do a 400+hp 302 with suspension that will let you run down a Corvette on a road course.

i have to agree also, unless its for the sake of just being different which i could understand, but if all you want to do is go faster the 302 is a rediculous little motor that is easy to build power out of, just bolt ons make end up with some impressive gains in hp, do a head or a cam swap and youve got some respectable power.... not to mention that the sn95 cars are way lighter then the sn197 chassis, so you can go just as fast with less power....
im diggin the 351 idea every time i here it though, im tryin to find out more about em now so i can help a buddy of mine determine if he wants to build one for his 95gts but thats just me and my 2 cent.... and 2 cents isnt worth much lol, so do what ya do

Agree. Buy a Dart block, build it up into a 331 stroker, and turbocharge it. You'll get an easy 540hp at the wheels, never mind the 540hp at the crank that you'll have with the GT500 engine.

okay...with the price of the motor and and the tranny alone you're probably gonna spend 20 grand...not to mention the fabrication work you'll have to do...you're looking at 25K to complete everything...hardly seems realistic to me...for 25K you could build 3 or 4 500+HP 347's lol...
oh and yes i'm with darrell i'd like to see the pics .

I vote save your money, keep your cobra clean. If you want to do a serious engine swap, find a car that actually needs it! Good luck with your decisions man!
