aftermarket steering wheel questions

has anyone ever put a new wheel in? dont seen many pics?
has anyone ever ordered the hub adapter from sparco? how did it work?
anyone ever buy the cheap 35 buck universal one on ebay?
did it change the postions of the steering wheel or the distance of it from you?
any hickups in the installation i should know about before i start so i dont end up with it all apart and cant put it together?

thanks for ur time

if you are going to do it make sure to disable your airbag system, especially before you work on it. just disconnect the negative terminal on the battery and let it sit for about 5 minutes then proceed to work on it. also be aware that in some states that have state inspections any modification to the airbag system will result in an automatic failure. so changing the steering wheel to something that does not accomadated air bags is failure in their book.

in wisconsin ive never had any kind of vehicle inspection, there is emissions testing every couple years but theres easy ways around it, and they dont care what ur car looks like or its safety standards. u dont need insurance either. kind of ghetto in most cases but works well for people like us

and the car did have airbags before

Im going to be doing the same swap here in a couple weeks, my air bags deployed do by default im changing mine. Arizona is the same way with safety inspection, just have to pass emissions and your good. As far as changing it as long as you have a little mechanical knowledge you should be just fine and from what i have been told it will sit just a tad closer but nothing crazy.

I can't believe that crap. You don't have to pass a safety inspection but you have to pass emissions??? Is it just me or does that sound COMPLETELY backwards!?!? Somebody please tell me whats wrong with this country!!! Emissions is waayyyy overrated!

Yeah well dont get me started on that, I think seatbelt laws, and helmet laws, etc. are all a little communist, and violates are rights. How is me not wearing a helmet, or a seatbelt going to affect anyone else, I am going to project out of the car and hit someone like a scud missle and kill them from the impact? LOL.. I hate helmets, they are hot, and restrict my view, it should be my choice to use/wear them.
Sounds like the car is salvage/been wrecked because that car most definately had them. Hope you didnt just buy the car and not know it was a salvage title.
Anyways I have used Grant GT wheels in a couple of my old lowriders and they fit great and are probably one of the best looking IMO. They dont stick out any more unless you get the kit that you can take the wheel off and lock it.(which is pretty cool, hard to steal a car with no steering wheel) I havent personally used any other brands and would stay away from any cheapies. Grant is fairly inexpensive anyways. Just make sure to buy the mounting kit, because most wheels dont have it because it is specific to your cars make, model, year....and you ARE going to need a steering wheel puller, without it it is close to impossible and will take forever. They are like 20 bucks and autozone used to have a "loan a tool" program and they had them. I dont know if they still do that or not. Save yourself the time and pain and just get one from the start, or you will be going back to get it later I promise...good luck

Yeah things are pretty backwards here in az but i really dont care i know im driving a good vehicle. My vehicle had been in an accident and i knew about it but i replaced the entire front end with a 98 and repainted it and kept the title clean. Everything turned out great and could careless about airbags so it works for me.

It's that way in California, too. Nightmare emissions testing, but the closest we have to a safety inspection is a brake and lamp, which is only done when you re-title a car (salvage or bringing in from out of state).

I put an FR500 steering wheel in my car. Wasn't that hard, but make sure you have a steering wheel puller.

I recently bought a Grant Challenger wheel and need to install it on my 95. Where should I buy the mounting kit from/how can I find one that fits my car?

I like the MOMO Retro Steering Wheel. It looks like this:

Mounting it requires the MOMO Mustang Steering Wheel Hub (84-04)

Total outlay would be close to $300 which is a lot of money, so I wonder if there are any cheaper junkyard alternatives that would work?
The steering wheel in my '92 Jeep Cherokee looks pretty similar and I like the looks:

Did you buy just the momo hub adapter? Or did you get a Grant adapter too?
