95 runs hot unless ac/heat is on

My 95 GT runs hot unless the ac/heater is on. Anyone with some imput would be greatly appreciated. Also each time I run the car, there seems to be the sweet smell of heated anti-freeze. I also have water coming from the tail pipes.

Water in the tail pipes is normal but if u can smell coolant that’s a problem, check your hoses and clamps, look under your water pump the bottom has a hole, if its leaking there replace it, if its a super small leak that you cant find go to the Chevy parts dep. (yes Chevy) and ask for some of their stop leak tablets, put 2 in the radiator and call me in the morning, lol just kidding, anyway don’t worry they wont hurt anything, they put them in almost everything they make from the factory. the heater/ac helps by turning the fan up a speed, check to make sure the fan is running normally though. Also make sure your radiator is clean (pressure washer) then of course there’s the thermostat, they are cheap might as well replace it.

burp the system if there is a air pocket in the system it can cause it to run hot also.

just take the radiator cap off and let it run for a little bit and it will push the air out

are you sure your electric fan is coming on .when you turn on the ac your fan turns on. maybe a bad temp sensor.break out a coolant pressure tester and see where you are leaking from.

i just dealt with the same problem. just do right and bypass the fan thermostat with an adjustable temputare control overide. you have a thermostat switch and you can chose from 160*-220*. factory sets the fan to come on at 210* Flex-a-lite makes one
