Crate Engine

What would be the best choice engine both price wise and performance under $4500 producing 300-350 RWHP for a 95 Gt? What company or site would be best recomended? I ask this because im on the verge of just throwing in the towel and starting fresh. Any Tips?

just do heads/cam/intake and a shot of n2o. it will still be less than 4500 bucks.

I would order a longblock from Coast High Performance. The website is www.coasthigh.com. A head combo is good but, I hate nitrous I think that it is cheaters gas. At least when you get a crate engine, you can have it built how you want. So later on if you want to add boost or something you dont have to redo the engine again.

i was just sayin nitrous b/c 4500 could be cutting it close in the overall cost of a crate engine. i love all motor too...but nitrous is cheap. (literally)

Yeah I understand what you are saying. My advice to the poster of the thread, is to save up a little more money. I have a 347 Stroker that I spent about 6500 on. I paid 5200 for the longblock with tfs heads, Dart Block, and all forged internals. Then the rest of it went to a new intake, throttle body, ud pullies, 24 lb injectors and a few other odds and ends.

No all the things that make up a great motor such as high compression and things that put your great motors power to the ground are not cheating. I think that nitrous is cheaters gas though.

People who say "nitrous is cheaters gas" truely have no idea what it takes to build a nitrous motor.

As far as it being "cheap"....dream on. Lets see you build a 800+ hp nitrous motor and then we'll talk about how cheap it is.

There is no "easy/cheap" way to go fast....

I have no doubt that it costs alot, and I am not talking about 800hp nitrous cars. I am taling about people with nitrous kits that can be put on totally stock motors. It is way easier and way cheaper to flip a switch then it is to build a motor to handle boost, or huge amounts of nitrous. So all I am saying is I hate nitrous when you can slap it on a stock motor and think that you have a real fast car when your nitrous is on. My car isnt the fastest but at least I have the power all the time, instead of when I push a button.

Fair enough. I have to agree with your "stock motor" point of view.

But I still dont see it as cheating.

Fast is fast in my book....reguardless of how you get there.

i never meant n2o was cheater gas, and by cheap, well the initial cost of a kit for a streep/strip car is cheaper than a turbo or s/c kit.

You are right, fast is fast, but it is a much better feeling to have the power all of the time instead of only when your bottle is filled. I love high horespower cars whether they have nitrous or not. I have this argument all the time wiht my brother because he is one of the people with a stock motor and a 100 shot of nitrous. It just pisses me off that I pull him hard all the way to fifth and then he creeps past me because, he has access to 100 hp at the flip of a switch.

I don't think you like it cuz you have probably lost some races to some nitrous cars And if it is so easy, why don't you put it on your car so that you can have it just in case ya need it?

I'm just playing devils advocate. I am not a huge fan of nitrous either.

I have lost a couple of races to nitrous cars and if they were running just motor like I am right now, they wouldnt have a chance. I dont want nitrous because, when I started this project I said that I wanted a fast pump gas car, and nitrous isnt pump gas no matter how you spiff it up.
