how do i know its 3.73

My mustang 95's stick comes out from the gear if i rev heavy, even at slow revs i hear a knock like the gears are hitting the stick...thus conclusion the gear is gone bad...

i am in process for looking for another gear for my mustang and found this place in the junkyard. he is famous for bringing gears from USA(i am in the middle east)...this guy says that the gear he will sell me is a sport gear and has short shifter and all for around $400 he will give it to me with installation.

now, if its a sport gear, it should be either 3.73:1 or something similar. but how would i know, i mean for short shifter i would know as it gets in easy, but how would i know if its sports, that is 3.73 before installation???

3.73 gears are for the rear end. They are not located in the transmission. I think you're getting transmission gears confused w/ rear end gears?

As Sonic said, you're confusing the transmission (called a gearbox in the UK) with the rear differential gear ratio. For $400 you'll be getting a rebuilt used transmission, not a new one. Sounds like a very good deal though.

The stock rear differential gear ratio is probably a 3.08 and replacing it with a 3.73 would be a very good mod.
Since you're getting a replacement transmission, this would be a good time to get a new clutch assembly as well.

The rear end differential gear ratio is in the rear differential. If you look at the rear end of the car you'll see a big "ball" in the middle of the axle. Coming from this "ball" is the 2 rear axles and the driveshaft. Inside there is a some gears that change the ratio from the driveshaft to the rear axles. The ratio of the gears is the number that you always see (ie, 3.73:1 or 4.10:1). This is where your rear end gears are located. They change the final ratio.

The transmission gears are in the transmission (which is right below the shifter). There are many selectible gears in the transmissions. The rear end gear is always constant.

King cobra clutch kit has reached home, i am waiting for the CAI which is on its way and transmission purchase and get them all installed at the same time.

just on the gear still, my clutch kit says Valeo on it instead of king cobra, did i buy the right clutch kit or have i been cheated? i will post a pic of the kit later today

i will try to see if from the junk i can find some 3.73 gears, if i can then will install them along and if cannot, then might wait change of transmission till i get the gears? do you think it will be a good idea, then the wait will be about a month till i get the 3.73's.

also, can i find the 3.73's in any other car as stock to fit in sn95 so when i m searching in the junk yard, i can just buy that cars???

Sameer, you'd be very lucky to find a 3.73 gearset on another junkyard Mustang and even then, you'd be gambling on its condition. I'd suggest you order a new Ford Racing M-4209-F373N Ring and Pinion Set and a Ford Racing M-4210-C Ring and Pinion Installation Kit. Total parts cost (without shipping) will be $250 or 96 Omani Rials which, I reckon, is very good value for money.

You don't need to worry about changing your transmission and rear gears at the same time. They can be changed independently of each other.

That's strange since I've been dealing with Summit Racing for 14 years and I've never had any problem getting parts shipped to Saudi Arabia and now the UAE.

They only quote shipping prices after you've ordered and chosen the method of shipping. If they don't accept your Paypal you can pay by credit card instead. I've been doing that for years.

all right then, what i will do is pay for the kit and see how much shipping i would be charged. what do you expect the shipping could be?

i will have 200RO ($500) to spare next month for the mustang.

transmission, clutch will be done by the end of this month with the CAI. and then i will get the Pinion and the ring for $350 (shipping i m guessing), will be left with another $150, what could i get for that then or should?
