Trunk Battery Relocation
Hey guys, did a search on here and wasn't able to come up with what I was looking for.
I just ordered a kit for my car that should be here in a few days. As far as grounding, I will just ground the original neg cables somewhere hidden on the inner fender, and ground the battery to the rear shock tower or somewhere similar. My question is for the positive wires - what exactly do I do there? The wire looks as if it runs from the starter, to a junction box, then to the battery. Maybe I'm just not seeing the simple, easy solution here, so can someone that has done it spell it out for me!? Also, anything to watch for when mounting it (besides the gas tank)? I plan on running the positive cable under the carpet and probably drilling through the firewall to get the wire to the starter. Good idea? Yes 95opal, I've seen your perfect engine bay, so I'm talking to you here! ![]() Thanks! |

On my 95, i attached the positive cable to the existing cable that mounted to the battery under the hood. I was able to hide it pretty well using my MSD 6AL box. Ran it through the fire wall, under the carpet, and out to the trunk....negative is just bolted to a bare spot behind the trunk panels. It was difficult to get the bolts through the bottom in the place i wanted...i actually ended up dropping the gas tank to do some work to fuel pump and permanetly secured it then. i would recommend a beter battery if you are going to do this though, (optima) with more cranking amps etc. Becuase of the long cable, drop in amps etc, i have to charge my battery with a charger regularly to keep it up...its not a daily driver for me btw so maybe you wont have this problem.
Huge help for the engine bay.

I have an Optima red top, and the car is driven maybe 1000 miles a year, so I'll probably have to set it on the trickle charger like you mentioned. |

i am about the same..1,000 miles or so a year.
I spliced the 2 together by loosening the battery terminal connector screws where the lead wire goes in, added the 2g wire from the kit, retightened and heat shrinked to make it look better. I may not have the charging issue i have had i gone directly from the starter. not sure..but i think the voltage drop is the cause becasue of the long cable and not my rigged connection. it shouldnt make a difference, but some may disagree. just about everyone i know that has a weekend toy as we doo keep a trickle on thier battery regardless. question for you, do you have the stock starter on your stroker? Is it NA?

It is a brand new starter, I just put it on right before winter 2009, so she's good to go. The car is also N/A as of now, and actually probably will be for a while yet.
Did you drill a fresh hole through the firewall, or was there an existing spot that worked for you to run the wire? |
