Purchasing Help Please

I'm not usually in this section but I told my buddy I would throw this out there and see what kind of info I could get. He's looking at a '94 auto vert with 64K miles on it, original owner. Asking price is $4800. What should he be looking at when he goes to look at it? What are some of the common problems associated with this model. Does that seem like a good price and how much room does he have to bargain with.

His other question is that he wants to do a little upgrading in the HP department. Nothing crazy, cold air kit, throttle body and intake manifold, headers w/a catted midpipe; what would he be looking at as far as HP numbers? I don't even know what the stock HP rating is.

Thanks for any and all help. I don't have a 5.0, but I am a fellow MMer.

4,800 for a vert, 1 owner, with that milage is a find (if its still eye appealing). I would try to bargin as much as i could, but i think it is worth minimum 4,500.

As far as common problems...its 16 years old...ANYTHING could be wrong with it...all you can do is look for leaks under the motor and tranny, look at the oil, tranny fluid if its an auto, etc etc.

THat model year had 215 HP stock. He could get in the 240rwhp range with bolt ons...no heads or cam, just simple bolt ons (exhaust, cai, intake, pulleys etc)

Not with bone stock heads. I ported mine to get 244rwhp and the rest is in my sig. Full details are in my garage.

Interesting. That's the highest I've ever seen from a stock H/C/I set-up. Did you have 1.7 roller rockers? Do you still have the dyno sheet?

made me look...your right...that was about 242 motor...not wheels.

My dyno run pre HCI was 208rwhp.

That makes more sense.
Automatics start at only 165-170rwhp (215-220fwhp) stock and with full bolt-ons, 1.7 rockers, and stock H/C/I (no porting), 210rwhp (275fwhp) is about as much as you're gonna get.
