OMFG shop killed the trans.. Now what??
Well i went and had the trans filter and fluid changed just before my emissions test and dam all if they didnt give me the worse news.
I quote "Roger was working on your car, he had it on the rack with filter and pan pulled on the transmission.. He left for his lunch and lowered the lift while he was gone. Another mechanic thought it was done so he started it and it ran about 30 second before it started makin noise then he shut it off.. They put it back together with new filter and fluid.. Now just drive it and let us know if there are any problems.. we will pay half the bill if it needs rebuilt, since you said it had problems when you brought it in . that will be all i can do for you...." and that its not an AODE trans.. Its a 4R70W. i said wtf kind of mechanic does that and not disconnect the battery terminals? Really? I worked at ford for 3 1/2 years and 2 other shops.. ![]() Then he had the nerve 2 ask me why i didnt just do it myself?? i wanted to knock his ass out.. i told him i live in an apartment smart ass now give me my fukin keys and he hands me a mf bill.. ![]() Aint that rich?? ![]() ![]() I drove it 2 miles to the emissions place. seemed fine. they put it on the roller and sniffer.. It slipped a lil in first and shifted extremely hard into 2nd.. but passed the emissions test. Now I can transfer the title.. Then on the way home 1st slipped insane and the shifts were a way too harsh.. Then I called the guy i bought it from . He says its a 4R70W(OH and that they reused the AODE converter when they swapped trans). WTF now he tells me this.. So what do i do here?? buy a used correct trans and have it built or go through this one?? P.S. The place is called auto check and they had done alot of work on my dads Z28 without any problems.. So i used them.

Hell, this isn't hard. Tell them to fix it, and pay for it. If they refuse tell them you will get it done somewhere else and they will pay the bill and you will sure them if they refuse to pay. It doesn't matter if your trans was on its last leg before you took it into the shop. They killed it.

I'd say sue them and take them to small claims court. First consult a lawyer, like the peoples lawyer from UH

So , I should just pay out of pocket to fix it and take the bill to court with me? this way i dont have to wait to get my car fixed.
what kinda price would i be looking at?? Anyone know a good place around here that wont rape you?? Man i need a place to do this myself.. might just rent a space for a month.

wait you're trying to rebuild your tranny?
I know that Patrick @ PSI motorsports knows a guy who'll build you a built one for $750, and semi built for $550 according to slow02gt... otherwise you can buy another tranny and have it swapped out by Les at QMS. $250. Great work, very great prices. 2 thumbs up!

tell the shop to look at it this way. If they don't front the whole bill, they are going to have to pay it anyways PLUS lawyer fees. Don't threaten them if you don't have to, though. Play nice until you have to go that route. But it seems they aren't playing nice. Just keep hounding them until you're blue in the face. Then threaten them with the lawyer.

Check how much a reman. tranny will cost and tell the garage that they'll have to pay for it. At least you'll get a good tranny (the tranny vendor will probably take your old one as a core exchange) and the garage will get a fairly modest bill that they'll be more willing to pay in full.

I know what you mean. They're notorious for not answering, but call them again. They've answered just about everytime I've called them in the past two weeks. I was actually just there 15 minutes ago. Call them now.

called but number is no longer in service..
i tried calling that number but it says its disconnected..
I just talked to an attorney (She is my dads boss's wife)and she said they are liable to an extent! WTF. She says it will be a 50 50 shot on getting them to pay for it all since the trans was questionable when i dropped off the vehicle... Also that the judge may only reward me a partial amount due to this or I will get it all depending on the judge.WTF. It can take anywhere from 2 months to a year to go to court.. She said if i dont want to deal with the hassle then just take the half they are willing to pay.. I am going to call another attorney. ![]() I am taking it to a trans shop at 2:30 today to have it all checked out for free to see where I stand..

Ok, i got a hold of psi and I am gonna call him tomorrow after i know something.
i went by autocheck and told them I talked to an attorney and they changed their tune real quick.. Told me to use Mr.Transmission or AAMCO and they would cover the bill.. So its sittin at Aamco down the street that a friend works at.. Waiting on diagnosis My buddy says he can buy a trans outside of the company and use mine as a core. Then install the new one for $300, so we are gonna try to do something like that or just have him build it with a Trick Shift kit and new stall converter.. Update-PSI just called me and gave me the price, $1200 just for the trans rebuild. That is just a bench job and no converter.. If they pull and install the trans its $1500 total. then another $700 for a converter ![]() Ok so back to the drawing board..

Ok well Auto Check has changed their tune again.. Aamco called them to give them what the build would cost Between $2100 and $2500... OMG... So then Auto check calls and says please take the car somewhere else.. But its too late for that.. They already have it pulled and torn down../
so i am waiting on Patrick to call me back from PSI, i am gonna try to just get it built that way and just have aamco do the install .. Update- I just talked to him & he says thay do the rebuilds at PSI($1,200) and doesnt have anyone who can do the build for any cheaper then that..

It cost me 2500 for the swap, included was a nice warrenty.
(stock swap) It was also the best trans place in the area. This seems really sticky. I would just let them pay the whole thing. Tell them its already torn down at aamco and if they have an issue to call them. Its all there fault and they should pay for all of it. Just because the trans was bad dosnt mean if they break it its no big deal. Thats still YOUR trans and THEY broke it. They should pay all of it.
