Question

Help with power steering to manual steering conversion

I have a 94 mustang with power steering and been having trouble with leaks. I have put on new lines and a power steering pump. Now I can fill it up and it all leaks out within an hr of driving. I hate working on it cause it's so cramped up where the lines go into the rack and that's where it's leaking.
What I'm wanting to know is if I just go get a manual rack is that all I need to just get rid of the power steering? Any other parts I need to change like the shaft? Or just take off all the power steering stuff and bolt on a manual rack?

ive removed power steering on a couple of my mustangs, i just remove the lines and pump and plug up the lines on the rack. works fine. but supposedly it puts alot of stress on stock components. ive done this on one of my cars and have had it like that for 4 yrs with no probs. but on my track car i spent the 5 bills on the manual rack and manual steering shaft just to have it look more professional. but from what i understand the only difference in the man. rack and the power rack is the gear ratio. with a manual rack installed it is supposed to be easier to steer vs. the stock pw rack with out the pump. but i cant tell a difference in between either, although i do use skinny front tires which helps. hope this info helps you

pardon me for reviving a year old thread + hijacking it but could it really be as simple as just removing all p/s components? on other threads they said you have to create a linkage between the 2 sides of the rack where fluid moves from on side to the other because of the pistons located inside a p/s rack. can you really just plug those holes up instead? and another thing, someone said p/s rack with no pump can really damage your rag joint, is that so?
oo one last thing. my current set up is an all drained out p/s rack plus the pump. it's a bitch to turn EVEN when at high speeds. will removing the pump fix this? I've driven manual steering before and i know the grunt is only when it's still, not while moving. yet mine's tough consistently.
