exhaust options other than flowmaster?
I recently joined this site after purchasing a 94 with a 5.0, there have been no performance upgrades yet as i wanted to build one up from the ground.
My problem has to do with what exhaust system i should get (looking to do just a cat back set up) i had a flowmaster on my 02 F-150 and all it did was change the tone, no real difference in the way the truck performed. After extensive questioning of friends and co workers who have changed exhausts it appears the best option is to go with a Borla set up; but I thought it couldnt hurt to ask a group of people who know mustangs inside and out. any other options or companies worth looking at for this subject would be greatly appreciated |

your not gonna see any huge gains from just a catback on any vehicle it will just be a pure sound thing. now if you go with a full exhaust(long tubes, O/R h or x pipe, and catback) you might feel a little different but not a night and day difference.
there are a TON of catbacks available with my favorite being the SLP Loud Mouth 1. |

SLP Loud Mouth ewwww wear you ear plugs. Couple of good choices are Dynomax and Mangaflow. Mangaflow is what I am runnung right not. I took off my flowmasters for these. Opened up the breathing of the car. You will be able to tell under a hard pull the difference between a chambered muffler (flowmaster) and a straight through.(mangaflow)

The magnapacks are not what I was suggesting. Mangaflow makes a normal muffler as well. Best thing to do it go to youtube and listen to different sound clips. performance= no chambers.

Magnaflow is a great exhaust, gives you a smooth sound and it's a lot less noisy in the car. Also you may want to get some better gears in that thing asap, thats a good thing to start off with.

personal favorites on a 5.0: bassani or spintech, both very high flowing mufflers but much better tone, imo, than borla.

Packs don't sound half bad on a 5.0, and they're damn cheap...They're quiet at a idle, but give off a nice roar when you get on it.

I will never run another muffler besides Bassani ever again. There is no other sound like it.

lol imo just buy some high flow cats take em to a muffler shop and have em replace the 4 cats with the 2 high flows, then remove all other noise reducing devices... or throw the packs on! save you a lot of money and will sound better than you think... thats what i have now and i get people ask me alll the time what exhaust i have... oh and headers help a lot... ive got cheap bbk's...
then when you start building the motor and whatnot you can match your exhaust to what you have done, and getting the best tone and power from that...
