5.0 Vacuum leak?

Well,i know theres a leak somewhere near the TB area. The TB gasket if fine but could it be one of two of the sensors that are on the rite side of the TB?I think its the TPS sensor,it sounds like air is coming out/sucking in from the round part of that sensor, where the plug is..

Any help?

the throttle itself makes a sucking sound. Is your engine surging? by that I mean does the rpm go up and down while idling? you can see if you have a cserious leak by covering the intake with your hand. It will suck your hand pretty good but it wont hurt ya. if the engine shuts off right away i would say you have no leak. If you get an rpm rise, you have a leak. I found my leak by tugging on all of the vacuum hoses until I heard the engine speed change. If you had a vacuum leak, you will most likely have to do the idle base reset.

See these links for more help:

Same old problem guess???

Mustang idle surge and base idle reset

keep us posted.... so we can help. I just had to hunt down a wicked surge on my car but I had a vacuum leak.

Yea,when i rev it,itll hover around 1500 rpms and then when it settles,it goes to 1000 rpm's.I used a tube from my ear to the motor to hear the sucking sound and you hear it directly on the TPS,i put a new gasket and still the samething...I guess ill try that sticky you have because i was reading up on that just now, thanks

did you put your hand over the intake and see what the result was? my 5.0 will stay running with a 3/8 vac line off..... I know this because I left one off by accident

Well,i found out how to set the idle down, but i had to close it all the way.Is that normal?I still cant figure out how you measure the voltage going through the sensor. Also id like to add,i was checking the sparkplugs and found out that one was black,i mean really black.Like as if it has never been fired and i found out the cylinder 3 qnd 4 wires were crossed,i crossed them back and replaced the spark plug and nothing.I think this car is running on 7 cylinders.Im going to pull the plug out,put another plug in and see if the plug will spark or not.I have a tool that measures electri waves or w/e and it senses that there is elect. going through the wire..

If you had to close it all the way, you have a leak somewhere. Same thing happened to me. are you getting popping noises out of your exhaust too at idle?

Yea kinda,so if the idle screw is closed alll the way, that means theres a leak?I also found out that one sparkplug wire was not sparking and i replaced it.Now shes fireing on all cylinders BUT,i tried to adjust the idle screw and i closed it alll the way shut and then it idled at 800 or so RPM's..

you have a leak my friend! get a pair of needle nose and start pinching hoses off close to the manifold. my leak was between the plenum and what ever the sensor is called on the fire wall (looks like a map sensor to me - i have a speed density car). If you still can't tell, speray around the hoses with carb cleaner or flow some propane around there (use a tube attached to a torch - don't light it) doint that will change the engine speed once you get to a leak. Look at your biggest lines first. Make sure your IAC is unplugged while you do this. If your iac is full open all the time, your engine can run with the throttle plate closed. If your engine dies won't start, after you unplug the iac, you need to doo the idle reset proceedure. Unplug your iac, start your engine. If it doesn't start, crank open the throttle plate a little with the idle screw. Start your car. If it starts, set your idle to your desired rpm. shut your car off again. Disconnect your battery for 10 - 20 minutes (this may be overkill as 5 minutes worked for me) re connect your batt and re connect your iac. start your car - it should idle very close to where you had it set.
