stiff clutch/fork play

arrite posting this for my buddy with a 94. hes had his tranny gone through by a local trans shop and they freshened it up (though i really dont trust them that well), a new stock replacement clutch kit was put in, and just today we did an adjustable cable, firewall adjust, and aluminum quadrant. it grabs good, but his clutch pedal has almost no travel at all (about half of my 96's) and is about as stiff as pushing a rock through caramel. now while we were doing the cable i noticed his had a lot of play in his clutch fork - about an inch or so. is that normal ? i know t5's and 5.0's in general are stiffer than t45's and 4.6's, but damn that clutch pedal is hard - even compared to my buddy's 4 eyed fox. any advice is appreciated.

Which aluminum quadrant did you use? Pedal effort is going to be determined by a combination of the quadrant's ramp, the tension of the return spring, and the clutch itself. If it's a stock replacement clutch, it should change the pedal effort, and I doubt the shop replaced the return spring with something super-heavy, which leads me to think it's the ramp of the new quadrant.

Have you tried it on the other hooks? I'd be willing to bet the third hook (farthest from the firewall) would be most likely to provide a stock feel.

Rev I couldn't get the cable on the fork with the cable on the farthest hook from the firewall. Even with a prybar. Couldn't the play in the clutch fork, or more specifically the throwout bearing retainer cause the stiff pedal and lack of pedal travel?

I dunno man... My 89 5.0L clutch was stiff as a board. I mean I had to put all my weight into it sometimes to get it to the floor. I changed the fork, cable and quadrant with no change. I heard maybe its the spring that pulls the pedal back up that might need to be changed?

Were you trying this with the firewall adjuster screwed all the way in?
