Some electrical questions

Okay so I've been looking at a bunch of different things; all electrical.

The underhood lamp:
When there's a bulb in the socket, it runs constantly. Is there an On/Off switch to this? Right now I don't have a bulb in it and it's been sitting around, so I uninstalled it.

Subwoofer:
I want to know if I can take a sub, wire it up to a home stereo and see if it works. Can I do this or will I need an amp?

If so and it's good - can I run the sub without an amp in my '94? (told this would work, but I've never dealt with them.)

yes you can hook the sub to your home stereo and it will play, but it wont be loud, well depending on what kind of stereo you have(how much power it has), but yes you can do it.
as far hooking up inyou car with no amp, yes you can do this also , but on the same token it wont be that lloud
the lower the watts the better(100-300 rms) when you dont have an amp hooked up, however if you take for an example a 1000 watt subwoofer and run it with no amp for long periods of time you take the chance of blowing your voice coils, b/c the subs are not made to play "words", its made for low frequencies with no "words" thats why the amps have a high pass freq. converter, - long story short yes you can do it

Sweet, thanks.

I actually tried it out (before I checked this again) and they are working..
I got two 10" MTX Road Thunder subs for $20 - only problem is one has a hole in it, but still works.

The other one is in great shape so I couldn't pass it up.

What amps are good for these? or does it not really matter?

you could epoxy the hole and get better sound quality...
i had a boss 1200 watt and it sounded good and was cheap....
i mean you dont seem to be worried about going to a competition or anything

dynamat!!!! rattling kills bass....

ahhh the good ol days of systems lol

what kind of music do you listen to? if you want rap bass you may be dissapointed with 10's, rap uses a deeper frequency and you need bigger subs to hear it, rock is perfect for 10's because its normally higher frequency faster beats so they can keep up and sound good

I plan on epoxying it but I'll have to check it out more and I've heard 8" subs kill 15" subs - all about a good quality and a good box.

I listen to all kinds of music but it really doesn't matter on what kind it is. I mean you can have a nice system and thump hard even when listening to country (I've even heard classical hit).

yeah i hear ya, i dont have a system any more (too much unnessesary weight) but i always ran a decent set of 12's with a decent amp. your right though... if you spend the money your 6x9's can out beat a 10 or a 12... its all how deep your pockets are, i was just going by a general rule of thumb...

and country hits harder then some rap even... lol
