Question

Advice needed on mods?

I have a few small modifications done to my 95 GT and I’m wondering where I should go from here?

I'm thinking about headers but, long tube or short? equal or unequal? What is a good brand? I already have o/r x pipes and I'm wondering if it is worth getting the long tube headers and then a short X or H pipe or should I just get a better set of shorty headers?

I have also been looking at CAI's. Does anyone have any recommendations?

An after market intake manifold is another one. I have read that trick flow and cobra are good but, there are so many different kinds and I'm not sure what the best one is for my car?

Is a new throttle body needed if I get the new intake manifold or does anyone recommend that I get one anyways?

Also, how do I know what mm throttle body to get and is a bigger one right for me?

and would I need to get a chip/tuner or get my car tuned after getting any of these mods?

Any advice, recommendations, or comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Anything you do from here on will depend on what your goal is. Do you want a fast street car that'll carve around corners, or more of a strip car that'll mostly go in a straight line? Where to do want your engine's powerband to be? Idle-5000rpm (stock), 1000-5500 (where I am), 1500-6000, 2000-6500, or higher? Your parts selection will depend on the above.

Shorites will give you higher peak, but long's are better for overall.

How much you willing to spend is the real question. With your current setup shorties would be an easy bolt in. But long tubes give you the most power but you'd need to buy mid length pipes for them. I like BBK for both CAI and long tubes.

+1, good advice.

Long tubes would be best, but would cost more/take more time.

I want a faster street car. I'm not quite sure about the powerband thing though.

I guess about a couple thousand but it wouldn't be all at once. I'm just going to do things when I get the money.

You can go quite a long way with that much. You'll need headers (shorties will bolt to your existing midpipe; long tubes make more power but can be a PITA to install and your midpipe would need to be shortened), an upgraded fuel pump (255lph preferable), and an adjustable fuel pressure regulator before you get into more serious performance upgrades. One option is to look around ebay for the following:

Cold air intake
65mm TB
Explorer or Cobra intake
Cobra GT40 or '98+ Explorer GT40P heads

Another is to save more pennies and go for an aftermarket top end kit which will yield more performance (includes aluminium heads, cam, intake manifold, roller rockers, timing set). Factor a set of 24lb injectors and a dyno tune into the cost if you choose the latter.
