Pins or new hinges?

My '94 has plenty of aftermarket mods.
One of the my concerns is my cobra fiberglass hood.

Long story short - hood wasn't latched, broke my windshield and bent a hinge.
(I didn't do this, nor was I driving..)

Problem: When I drive on the highway (going around 60-70MPH) the hood looks like it's shaking up and down.

Now I haven't had a hood fly on me yet and I'm afraid it will. I don't really want to put pins in, but if it comes down to it I guess I'll deal with it.

Will new hinges fix my problem? or is there anything I can do before I put pins in?

And if I have to put pins in, what kind should I get? - I want black ones that will look flush.

Also! One of the screws were stripped so I got it fixed with a helicoil kit.

Here's my latch - works good

if ur latch works just get a new hing.
they say u need pins but u really dont. as long as ur hood latches down. i have a fiberglass cobra r hood that latches and i never used pins and its fine. ive taken it up to 130 and it was fine. hood pins look ugly any ways lol
new hing to fix ur problem and ur good. just make sure u get everything to line back up after u put the new hing in

I completely agree with you on the pins but have you ever had it shake like that?

My Cobra R hood unlatched itself twice on the highway and I feared one day it would happen on the road coarse and really smash the windshield so before that ever happened I installed pins and got rid of the latch. The latch removal is not necessary with the pins, I just like how simple it is now.

ford6693 - thank you, I worked hard on it.

hotmustang95 - my latch works perfect, just those high speeds messes things up. I don't really want pins though.

rokckin87gt - I would search tune up or firing problems on the search engine. Not sure but it sounds like you need a tune up to me.
Also, I had an '83 full size bronco that would do that same shit to me, EVERY TIME I DROVE IT! All I needed was a new fuel pump, but like I said search around, talk to some people. I'm sure someone on here has had that same problem.

Also, why in hell is there such a difference between the left and right hinge price?
One's $20 the others $40; why!

Would you mind taking a picture of your latch and hinges for me, please?
And thanks; I suggest doing it and putting silverstar bulbs in +crystal clear vision.

I dont understand how many times is it going to take before people realize it dosent matter what company makes the hood or what not. If your running a glass hood invest in pins period the end.

because pins are ugly and ruin the look. im an autobody guy and i like the look of my car and pins would through it off in my opinion.. and my hood stays fine without them.
ill go get some pics of my hinges and latch. i didnt do anything out of the norm to them.

Then you my friend are one of the lucky ones for now lol.....
One day though you will understand why I make such a bold statement about the hood pins.

Not sure what I did to it but it doesn't shake anymore?

My brother drove it while I watched it and he got up to 90-100 and never moved.

Its not about the hood shaking your hood may not shake or move a bit but dont be fooled its still recomended to run pins.

your factory hood is fiberglass whats the difference?

the cobra r didnt have pins so if you buy a real r hood you dont need them....

You can do what you want as far as the pins go run them or not. Im just speaking from experience {7 stangs over the last 22 years} and from what ive been told by the manufactures. You can either take the advice given and be safe or you can disrgard it and run at your own risik. Dosent matter to me ill keep my pins and hood intact.

JFTI I myself have lost not only a stock hood but a glass hood also and if you do your research its a very common thing regardless of manufacture. Like I said in my first post I dont know how many times you people need to see the stories of it happening but to each their own.

stick pins in it if you do it right it will look awesome and you wont have to worry about the bracket ripping out and destroying your 500 dollar hood
