soft plug


ok so last sunday on my way to a car show i poped a soft plug i was wondering do i want to replace with the steel or the bras plugs and why are there two diff types.

are you talking about the coolant plug on the fron or back of the block ?

yes the freeze plug on the side of the block under the driver header

i did think the steel would be better but i think thats what hapend to the first one it rusted out and the bras wont rust?

BRASS!!!!!!!!
Tore down a motor last year that used steel plugs and they all were rusty. Which also made it very hard to take them out since they kept just breaking apart.

brass dont rust. the last thing you want is a rusted out freeze plug... trust me

yea thats the prob i have now it rusted and blew out.and if it is soft what dose that matter just has to hold up to what 20ish pounds of presure in fact i think my rad cap is 18 so will the brass be the best option

IIRC, the stock cap is 16psi, you really shouldnt be running higher

ok so today i put in a rubber expantion plug to nget me threw the rest of summer i will replace all the plugs this winter when i build the stroker.
