Battery wont charge...

Long story short,I replaced the battery with a Optima Redtop.Runs good but now,I left the car running at idle for about 20 mins and next thing you know,I turned it off tried to crank it and it wont start.So it had to be the alternator.I replaced the alternator with a Rebuilt Craftman and It was tested that it works at the shop that I got it from.I put it in the car,start it and I my father put a voltage meter on it,and its not chargeing the battery!!We then started the car and removed the positive cable and the car dies???Is this the alternator or something else?Ive checked the fues under the dash and in the engine compartment and nothing.Everything works fine,any sugestions because im stuck rite about now...Iv also made sure that the clips are good and its making contact any ideas would help...

Is this a 96 you swapped a 5.0 into?
