Exhaust leak???

started car up last week and thought what i heard was a header gasket going bad. took it to my friends shop today and did a tune up set timing and had him make sure it was the header that was leaking before i took them off, and he says its the tube that runs from the back of the heads for egr? if i put my hand back there i can feel air. so whats the easyest way going about fixing this? he said i would have to take the heads off? im deff not trying to do that i was planning on doing that this spring and putting some AFR's on after i had the spair cash saved. Please help this sound just pisses me off everytime i drive the car sounds like a damn choo choo train lol

Why don't you just remove the smog system on the vehicle and plug the back of the heads with a bolt? The total bill will be under $40 with a shorter belt, plus you'll save a couple of pounds not having that worthless heavy smog pump on there...no need to take off the heads. Unless its the EGR line, but that runs from the EGR to the header, so again, the heads wouldn't need to come off.

yea i was thinking same thing. i already have smog pump removed and shorter belt. i guess i would just remove the tub from headers and replace with a bolt? then for the tube going from head to head with some type of egr delete kit someone sells? but doing all this would the car throw a code? would it run any different?

Make sure you get a battery terminal brush "bottle brush" and some carb cleaner, to clean out the threads in the back of the heads.
