Goodies for my '95

All right so I'm pretty much going to be traditionalist...going to start by putting 3.73's on the rear-end and then I think go with longtube headers with an x-pipe (don't know if I should go o/r or not) and Flowmaster 40's. I don't want a lot of the crackle that comes with the exhaust though. I want to my car sound open and smooth, but powerful, so my question is the crackle in most Mustangs you hear because of there are no cats on the mid-pipe...correct me if I'm wrong. Also I'm looking to get into the 350-400 hp range later on down the road. Am I going to be able to get that out of a 302 with cam, heads and intake upgrades or will have to throw a power-adder on as well?

I don't have cats on my h-pipe and there is no crackle and I run packs so it is basically wide open. Just use something different than flowmaster 40's.
I think you could hit 350 without a power-adder. Just need the right combo.

Or yo could stay away from a restricting muffler style like the flowmaster all together. They have been proven as one of the most restrictive and power robbing mufflers on the market.

I run SLP Powerflo's on my car. At idle, the car has a deep rumble but tame and not obnoxious. But when I open the car up, al hell breaks loose and the beast under the hood lets its presence be known.

My personal opinion... before you do ANY modifications... you need to decide what end point you want to reach with your vehicle. If you are strictly looking for a 350hp vehicle, but have no other true aim's or aspirations... then I would suggest you just put a supercharger on the car and be done with it. Accompany the s/c with a full exhaust system comprised of LT headers, O/R H pipe, and the SLP Powerflo's that I run... and you will turn heads, while still having the power to hold your own.

Well it will be my daily driver for the next year probably unless I can find an old junker for 500 bucks or something, and I do want to run at the strip once in a while, plus a little quicker acceleration wouldn't hurt, so I will def. be putting 3.73 gears on, but I don't ever plan on being an avid racer. I probably want to build a car to the point I can outrun a stock Corvette, and to be totally honest I'm not that car savvy, so I don't know at what point that is, but I know i want a good sounding exhaust and I've done a lot of reading on the 3.73's so I know those two mods are getting put on the car for sure!

You say a S/C will give the motor 350 hp, but would the stock internals of the 302 be able to handle a S/C? Like I said I don't know all that much about cars, but damn it I want to learn, so I apologize if that seems like a stupid question!

the stock engine will handle the s/c all day long. you might pop the head gaskets... but when that happens, just get new gaskets and a set of ARP head studs...

If i could start over again with the knowledge i have now... id build a lightweight 306 with a turbo... probably cost less than my 347 did, and make 30-50% more power.

Yeah that's kind of how I feel now like I don't know shit, which I know a little bit, but def. wish I had more knowledge of cars and tearing them down. I mean I've been outside messing with taking stuff off to learn, but I'm going to be taking some automotive courses at the end of this year. You seem to know a lot yourself. It would be a lot better if I had a buddy around here that liked to work on cars, but I haven't really met too many people who own Mustangs or anything else around here.
