Whats the difference between GT40's and GT40P's?

I have a 95 Mustang and a friend gave me a set of GT40's but I have heard GT40P's are better. I know the P's came on explorers but is there a difference?

Ya they are a different design. They moved the spark plug to more of the center of the cylinder so its more difficult to get the plug wires on if you dont have p specific headers or long tubes.

The P's are definitely better. They come with smaller 58cc combustion chambers compared to the GT40's (62cc) so that raises the CR by 0.4:1, and they flow better especially on the exhaust size. The central spark plug location improves combustion efficiency but also makes the plugs more difficult to change.

I am also considering the upgrade to the gt40p heads.I do not think the spark plug is not much of an issue if you have long tube headers.Mac makes a set of headers for "p" heads.

I was told if I ran the GT40's I could keep my bbk unequal length headers. But if I went to the GT40P's I would have to run longtubes. So you should be able to keep the headers you already have as long as you run the GT40's.
