Shift points

I know this question has been asked before but I was wondering if my solution would also correct the problem. I have a 94 GT with the AODE tranny. Put 4.10 ring and pinion in the rear and correct speedo gear but my shift points are still off. I hit the rev limiter before the transmission shifts. I read a post on here that said to get the speedo recalibration unit from summit for around 100 bucks. Unfortunately I read that just about 5 hrs after purchasing a MSDBTM unit from ebay. My theory was that if I installed the MSD I could just change the supplied rev limiter chips to the 6000 rpm range allowing an extra 500rpms for my tranny to shift. Will that work or do I need to get the speedo recalibrator thing. If the MSD unit will not correct the problem anyone want to buy it? My future mods are a DSS 331 stroker and turbo hence why I went with the boost retard.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Yes the boost retard is for the future, not running boost now. My car hits rev at 55-5600 rpms not 7000. It shifts about 100 rpms after the rev so 6000 would work. Will the MSD unit override the stock rev limiter though?
