Shocks and springs

Hey guys, I figured out that my squeaking from my front end is caused by my right front shock. I check out my rear ones, and the driver rear is busted and leaking. I figured that I would put new shocks all the way around...a buddy of mine told me that I should lower mine.

What is the cheapest way to do this with good results...what do I need?

I know shocks from oriellys is probably going to be around 50 a piece...I can get them off of ebay cheaper...i don't want junk, but i would like to save a bit...anyone recommend a good set of shocks all the way around?

the lowering..i see some lowering springs on ebay for about 80 bucks for all around..do I need anything else, do they make it ride like shit, or they worth the money?

id be willing to bet its your balljoints, not your shocks.

You say you dont want junk parts, yet you are looking at $80 springs, and $50 shocks?!

A DECENT set of shocks, struts and springs, will run you about $600. FMS used to make a suspension kit called "Bullit Handling kit" I bought it, it was decent. but the car didnt get dropped far enough.

My recommendation to you: H&R SuperSport springs, Tokico Illumina 5 way adjustable shocks and struts.

I just basically want some replacement shocks. to lower it is something i may or may not do. I mean, a spring is a spring right? thats why I asked..I am not really asking for racing suspension, just some replacement shocks...1 in the back is busted..

the squeaking is the shock...I sprayed pb blaster up into the shock, and it went away for a while.

no, "a spring is a spring" is the wrong way to look at this. Suspension is one of, if not THE MOST important item in your car. If you buy shitty, cheap springs, expect them to sag after only a short while, expect them to wear out quickly, and possibly break (see: early 2000's Taurus rear springs)

and the parts i recommended to you, are NOT a racing suspension...

If your shocks are as shot as you detail them to be, a cheap set of shocks on a poor man's budget is your best option. Yeah, they might be $50 bucks a piece, but right now they will be better than what you have. Will they not be as good as a set of high quality shocks? No, but they will last you some time, maybe it's 1 year, maybe it's another 5.

If you intend on keeping this car any amount of time, you are likely to find yourself making several suspension changes. Be prepared to do it sooner if you go with cheaper shocks. Collect your chips and plan ahead.

Good luck

Alright...if I don't want to do the springs at the moment, and do that later on could I just get the shocks, and put on the springs later?

Is this what I need to be looking for? (I myself have never replaced shocks/struts, making sure I will be getting everything that I need)

TOKICO BLUE HP STRUTS/SHOCKS SET 94-04 MUSTANG NO IRS - eBay (item 190424341225 end time Dec-24-10 23:05:06 PST)

That does not seem too bad..I might actually buy the front, then the back or vice versa, so its not all at once..I'm going to college, got 2 vehicles, and a quad, and bills and everything in between. Plus I just had to pay for my trip to mexico which was 1k.

I might be replying to this a little late, but IMO I dont trust anything on ebay. you never know where its been made, and how the quality is. I would save up and go for the trusted source, like american muscle or late model restoration or even summit racing.

He's right! Think about it, if the wheels are your car's feet, the suspension system is its legs. A beat up suspension would be like having busted up knees and bad hips.
I understand having to find deals on things due to limited cash, but its worth getting quality the first time so you don't have to worry about it anymore.
Do the shocks first then lower it later when resources are available. I'd suggest H&R springs as well. Thats what I went with and love them. I've come across sets of eibachs on ebay. You might find a good deal on quality stuff. And check out the classifieds section on here. Things pop up all the time.
