rims

so my next door lady is going away for Christmas, and like 2 weeks back, she found her dog had cancer. since she is an older lady and all of her kids are like 30-40, she treats this dog like her baby. She even took it to get chemotherapy. anyways she made plans a long time ago and couldn't change them, so she left me in charge of her dog.

She is paying me 300 dollars to watch the dog till January 4th.

right? that's what I thought. and my once nice chrome rims are not doing so good with Florida's salty air (the chrome is literally chipping off) and it would cost more than the rims are worth to re chrome them, just so they can do the same thing in a year, I've decided on getting new black rims that would look good on a white stang. question is, which rims? I don't want anything over $600.

I was looking at some cheap rims: PRIME 522 BLACK Wheels - Buy PRIME Wheels Online at Victoria Tire & Wheel but I wanted to get the "mustang masters" opinion before I buy anything.

I would do chrome, but where I live, they corrode within a year. Do you suggest anything?

well, to me, it looks like the car is riding around on steelies. If I spend money on a set of wheels, I want them to be noticed.

The other major drawback to the "all black" look, is that there is no contrast between the tire and rim. And as the tires get older, the color will begin to fade off and will make the wheels look goofy.

I would also stay away from a chrome wheel just due to the weight. If you want a shiny wheel, get a polished aluminum. They dont peel like chrome, and you can always re-polish them to bring out that original shine.

if u want something good then expect to pay a little more, and dont be cheap if ur car means something to u. just my opinion. u can find nice wheels out there that will make ur car really stand out and wont take u to the bank but dont buy the cheapest ones just cause u want new wheels. cause they wont look near as good and u will just want new ones in another year or 2 anyways.

Obviously these "drawbacks" are subjective, and if you take care of your vehicle, which includes the tires, they will not fade and look like crap as they age. A nice tire shine solution will prevent any major fading and keep your tires looking healthy....avoiding that "goofy" look.
If you want an all black wheel, do it. I've seen many white cars with all black wheels that look really good. I believe there are several on this forum.

I 100% agree. I think wheels that are completly painted look like crap. If you have to get painted wheels then only the spokes should have paint but the outer ring of the wheel should be chrome or polished aluminum. Just my opinion

Just like anything else, having a wheel with colored spokes and a polished lip is a fad. 10000000000000000 people have black or anthracite bullitts on their stangs these days. And anyone else with painted rims has the same look. The trend used to be chrome or really flashy, but now it is painted spokes and a shiney lip. In a couple of years, there will be a different style that is super popular and you will be saying that that is the only way to go.

Ya but there will always be certain fads the will last the test of time and although they may look a little outdated will still look good, and other fads look good for a few years then look ridiculous. like the old avocado green appliances or formica flower counter tops of the 1960-1970. Granit counter tops and stainless steel appliances will still look decent 30 years from now even though they will be outdated

i say you go with the wheels that satisfy your personal taste... i dont think full color rims look good... i have some brazilian brand rims, the best i could get down here for my stang in 17 inch, they use to be gunmetal grey and i got bored of them and painted them glossy black.. i have only recieved good comments about them, make the stang look more agressive. But the funny thing that i hate know is i live in a small city so ive already seen two mustangs paint there rims black after me and my neighbor has a bmw Z4 with 19s and he has also painted them black and im a little pissed off with that... ... I say you should get a nice set of rims being unique and stylish... dont go with what everyone has cause then you will be one more stang of the pack. Save up more money and do a good purchase

When I wanted some cheap rims I went after the first set of 18" silver saleen replicas that came available on Ebay back in 04. Now those rims have been moved over to my 95 v6 mustang and I've got authentic chrome Saleens on my 95 Cobra. I've had them on the Cobra for two years now in Florida and no issues with chrome peeling. Your problem has got to be related to the manufacturer using a cheap chroming process.
