Newbie needs help w/94 GT Conv project buy
Hello
I found a 94 GT Convertible that is immaculate in and out. It has the Saleen front adn rear valence and some aftermarket side skirts with aftermarket rims. It is dark green exterior with black leather interior (seats from a 2004). He says the auto trans is bad and it has 88K. It has flowmasters, HID lights, MSD 6AL box and coil/cap/rotor. It starts up quick and sounds good (don't know if H pipe installed). He was asking 3.8K and I offered 2.3K and he agreed. He also had new in box Perfomer Aluminum heads, Edelbrock upper and lower and elbow, and a Comp Cams 280 kit (timing wheels, chain, springs, retainers, etc,) that he wanted 1.6K and I offered 1.1K he countered 1.2K. What do you think of the value of the car and are the parts something I could use to make this car stronger yet streetable? He doesn't have headers and its stock gear but when I looked on the Comp Cam site they recommend 2500 stall, headers, bigger mass air and bigger TB for this cam. What could I look to make with this installed with mass air, tb and headers? Is a higher stall really necessary? Are these engines tuned with the handhelds (SCT) or do they need chips burned. I haven't had a Mustang since my 88 GT Vert twenty years ago! Thanks Joe |

Pics would help. At $2300 i would do it, seems like a good deal. As for the price of the parts, if there brand new then you got to figure is another $100 worth it to you. If you were to order these parts new it would cost you more then that. If there used parts it still not that bad of a price. You want all your parts to match each other to get full power out of them, So if they call for a different stall to be with in the same RPM range as the cam then you might wanna look into it

I would take the money you would spend on his top end kit and put it towards a set of trick flow heads and intakes, and a custom grind cam, or if you don't want to go the custom cam route, just buy the whold Trick Flow top end kit.
As far as your transmission goes give silverfoxbody a PM his name is Dan and ask him to build you a valve body that will shift, and get with Alan @ DirtyDog Performance (Powered by CubeCart) about a stall One of the first things you need to do is get you a set of subframe connectors on her also. Get some pics up here when you get a chance and congrats on the find, sounds like you got a great deal.

I took some pics but don't know how to upload them. This guy really took care of it because it was literally spotless. If someone can tell me how to upload I will.
I notice a lot of cars in MM&F use Trick Flow or AFS heads. Are those the best street heads? I looked on Mustang Restoration and they had many heads for the 5.0 so don't know which one is best bang for the buck. I have already looked online for equal length headers do you guys recommend the H pipe or X pipe to go with them? For trans I found a few local less than 80K for 250-700 asking price and found a Monster Transmission stage 2 AODE for sale with 2K stall for 650 with 1,000 miles on it but I will have to ship it. I want to get it running first then work on upgrading it. |

When I picked up the car he lowered the prices for the parts to 1K but I found out the cam kit is actually a Comp Cam 284 and on their website they call it a supercharger cam, the heads are Edelbrock Performer aluminum with 60 cc combustion chambers and 170 cc runners. The manifold is their Performer manifold (not RPM). Not sure if this is a good combination. I thought about selling that cam (list 500) for a milder cam or as someone posted above getting Trick Flow heads (which ones) and intake and cam but don't know the cost of those. I found a stage II trans and 2K stall conv in NJ with 1,000 miles on it for 650 and might get that instead of a take out (stock) trans.

Can you tell which body kit it is? I don't know I had a communication barrier with the seller (needed a translator) so I wasn't able to learn the finer points of it.
