supercharger
I am looking to put a superchager on my 94 mustang with a 5.0. it is alreadsy bored .30 over with dss forged pistons, afr 165 alum. heads, systemax upper and lower intake with spacer, full exhaust, msd box, tremec tranny, 373 gears, comp cam and roller rockers, ford racing crank, high volume oil pump with 9 qt pan, 30 lb injectors, 255 lph walbro fuel pump, 76mm c&l maf, 70mm throttle body, and a few other small things. It has a sct 4bank elim chip tuned and put down 306 rwhp and 320 torque.
I was wondering what the best type of supercharger for the money i should use and should i get one intercooled or not? I am new to the sc world and any info would help. I talked to the shop that dyno tuned my car and they said i should be able to put down 500+ with no problem so im just asking around for opinions and with whatever sc i use what kind of boost should i run. i dont run at the track very often but would like a nasty street car. Please all info is helpful |

If you're still using the stock production block, I suggest you limit yourself to 450rwhp so that you don't split it. A Vortech 8psi kit will get you there but you'll need to upgrade to 42lb injectors.

I am going with a Kenne Bell. You would have to get rid of that intake tho. My second choice would be a procharger you wanted to keep the same set up ya have now just add some power to it. It little more pricey compared to others superchargers for our . You would be able to get a tuner kit from them since you already have a fuel pump and stuff that would save ya a lil cash. It is nice that the procharger kit comes with a intercooler also.

you say something about a tuner kit. i already have the sct 4 bank elim chip in the car now so i should be able to use that same chip right. since you cant use handheld tuners on those cars because they arent obd2 which procharger are you refering to? there seem to be like 3 or 4 out there? also wondering where the cheapest place to buy the kit is?

I talked to the guys at procharger and they suggested that I went with a tuner kit since i already had exhaust and intake upgrades. The full kits they offer are for completely stock setups. They come with a chip, fuel pump, FMI and all the parts need to run on the stock cars. A tuner kits does not come with all that stuff. That is probly what you will want since you have done so much already. They have to models for our cars. They have the P1 and the D1. They bolth are very similar but the D1 pushes a few more CFMs and would be used for higher horse motors. I don't know what your goals are but if i went with a procharger i would probly go with the D1 beacause I would like that room to grow and the upgrade from the P1 to D1 was like $300. Way cheaper to do it now then later. Your chip i think would work not 100% sure tho. If youa hve questions give procharger a call they have awesome support. They could also help ya ith a dealer close to you so ya could get a good price. I don't know where ya are located but i was going to go through Kennedys Dyno Tune in Buffalo NY they are close to me and they will give ya lifetime support if ya buy a product thro them. A plus to have someone to call if something is wrong with the set up. They have been doin S/C setups for years and suppost to be one of the best in the country. Hope this helps!

yeah that helps alot. i was also thinking along the same lines of not need the whole kit with the fmu and all. Do you happen to know what the d1 tuner kits run?

also wondering if i went with the d1 trying to make about 500 hp i would have to go with 42lb injectors and that also means i would have to get a new maf to match the 42lbs since i have 30lbers in there now with matching maf.

Yes you will want 42lb injectors and don't take offense to this but how much research have you done on finding out how strong the 5.0 blocks are? I ask because 500+hp is pretty unsafe on our motors because that is the point where the block can't hold on anymore(yes I know there have been some people making more power but they are on borrowed time and the block will let go it is inevitable).

yeah i have done quite a bit of research and seen that 500 is pushing it and if thats the case what blocks are peope using in the 94-95 5.0s that 500+ hp. do i have to get a maf to match the 42s or not since i will have a custom tune i have heard that i dont have to have a matching maf that the tuner can do it in the tune. is this true?

The tuner will program a custom MAF transfer curve into the new chip so you don't need to worry about getting a calibrated MAF, but you WILL need those 42lb injectors. |

Ya def get get thos 42lb injectors! I also think if you were to run a nice low amount of boost like 9 or 10 you would be 450 to 500 area. To be on the safe side just have your tuner put a good safe tune in it. If you were around that area that would be a fun ride. If ya want more you will def. have to think about a better block. When I talked to the guys at procharger about that D1 tuner kit I wanna say it was gonna be like $4600?? Not 100% sure tho. If you wanted to go with the P1 it would be like 300 cheaper.

If I was you i would go for the 3 core if ya are going to be playing with that much horse. Also for the cost of the upgrade with ya buy a kit it is worth it and it will flow more air and not hold ya back. The cooler ya can get the air the better!
