My engine swap project

I got 94 GT for cheap excellent condition with 217k miles on it. The motor was tired and mixing coolant/oil. I got an explorer motor from the u pull it for $75 and it was well maintained. Using the GT40p heads and intake, somebody gave me some headers and I painted the block and valve covers nice plus ordered a chrome oil pan. Swapped the mustang cam in the motor too. I'm excited to have a little extra power than stock, does anybody have a guess at how much extra HP I might get?

Wow, i just bought a 94 Mustang GT with a blown head gasket and was looking at dropping in an explorer engine or swapping the top end but with work I've got enough money but no time to dig in and start. How is the swap going so far? Have you run into any problems yet?

From what i've read the gt40p heads and intake swap can get you 30-50hp+ more if you cam it and some other mods to support it.

The only problem I anticipate is the throttle body angle. Is there an elbow I can use for the throttle body on the Explorer upper intake? The stock intake comes out toward the inner fender but the Explorer one goes straight. I was thinking of looking around the junkyard for a proper rubber intake hose to use. It should be easy enough to do that with my CAI.
We got the motor and tranny bolted together after putting a new rear main seal in. Just have to bolt on the engine mount brackets and drop it in. I'm using the stock automatic but thinking about a 5 speed swap in the future right now I just want it running.

I dropped the motor and trans in together, it's always easier to do it like that. Lining things up in-car is a real PITA. Anyway, I've got the thing 90 percent complete I'm just waiting on my throttle body elbow to come in the mail which should be in tomorrow. Then I can bolt on the throttle body and work out the throttle linkage and put on the distributor cap and wires, and fire it up. It's looking great and coming along nicely.

did you replace the valve springs on the gt40 heads they are very weak from factory and would be in your best interest to replace them right away

I left the stock valve springs in it. I wish I knew how weak the springs are when I brought it to the machine shop. Maybe I'll do that over the winter.

The car is running now and it runs great. I took it for a little drive and everything is working great. I got a code for the EGR so I have to get one of those things that fool the computer into thinking it's still there. The header that I had to modify with the ball peen hammer is leaking at the flange on the #8 cylinder where I had to dent it. Not so sure on what to do about that because pulling the header out with everything installed doesn't look like much fun.

Nice job! Yeah, the stock springs on those Explorer heads have always been a deal breaker for me. Sure you can get the heads cheap, but they will cost $$ to get them up to par to run with any kind of descent lift cam.

But as long as you aren't too aggressive with it you should be fine.
