Pop and leaks

So I replaced my U-joints today and took my car out for a test drive. I hit about 60 and heard a loud pop and lost all power to the rear wheels. I pulled over, there was a leak of gear fluid coming from the transmission, my U-joints were non-existent, probably along the side of the road, and driveshaft was detatched. Any ideas on what this could be? please dont say I need a new transmission

Sounds like the front driveshaft u-joint grenaded itself and the yoke came out of the tranny tail housing, so there was nothing to keep the tranny oil in.

Could it have also damaged the transmission seal during the grenading?

I hope there was ATF coming out of your transmission and not gear lube....

just got word from the shop, cracked transmission, probably due to the explosion of the U-joints. Lesson to be learned. If you have any doubts of doing u-joints yourself, pay the 200 at most for a shop to do it or just buy a new aluminum with the u-joints already installed.

umm i would check to have that verified ma dude, because tranny shops will say anything to take your money, have someone else take a second look at it

No, it was a friend of mine's shop. Really trust him, been working with him for years and never did me wrong.
