my setup
so, ive got the block, and its about to be sent off to the machine shop to get reconditioned. but before i send it off, i wanna get some opinions on my setup im planning.
so to start off Im going to do a scat rotating assembly, with forged crank and pistons (i wanna OVERbuild this motor.) standard stroke, and +.030 pistons. then COMP Cams Magnum Hydraulic Roller Camshafts with Duration at 050 inch Lift 224 int./230 exh. and 112 lobe seperation. Edelbrock Performer Cylinder Heads COMP Cams Ultra Gold Aluminum Rocker Arms 1.7 ratio Holley EFI Intake Manifolds Holley High-Flow EFI Throttle Bodies 75mm Granatelli Motor Sports Mass Airflow Sensors 90mm 36lb injectors 255 LPH fuel pump JLT 4" CAI on the car will be 3.73 gears, aluminum driveshaft, 315's in the back, its already been seriously lightened. im tryin to be pretty conservative for this motor. its my first attempt so i wanna try to get it as good the first time as i can. |

Stroker kit from Scat would be more fun. I used 332 kit from Eagle.

Do a stroker and get a slightly hotter cam and if your stuck on those performers look into like the xts or somethin or better yet some high ports will do nicely it's just a waste to spend money on a forged crank that's stock length unless your doin a sbc where you have to stick to a stock length crank to not have a stupid small base circle cam

The high ports aren't the tws they just have raised exhaust ports which are helpful cause the stock location sucks I just bought a set of tea 225 cnc high ports for my 418 they flow amazing you just have to call accufab if you want a good easy fitting long tube and if your using a stock block stay cast steel a scat 9000 series crank will live long after you've split that 5.0 block that's why I only do windsors and mod motors but as long as you want less than 500 a stock block 302 setup is fine but don't worry about the high ports they are an amazing head I'll take these over afrs any day

ok cool, ill go with the cast crank then. you make a great point about the fact that the block is gonna split before a cast crank gives out lol. but i think im just gonna stick with the performers, they are a tried and true head that has been around forever. they dont have the best flow of the heads that are out there, but they can stand up to some good abuse.
now the quesstion is this, where ios the best place to get a standard stroke cast crank? |

Scat, don't look at any other company unless you need a crank that can handle like 900+ hp. Shouldn't cost too much and they usually cone out of the box spot on, you sure you don't wanna go stroker? I don't wanna force you into a setup you don't want, just making sure you look at your options the crank will cost around the same just a little more machine work. But it's all up to you it's your motor not mine. Good luck man.
