No sound from speakers

Hey all,
when I got my mustang it didn't have a radio and the sub-harness was all hacked up. So I found a v6 mustang at the junkyard same year with the stock radio in it and the slave CD player. Took the harness, both parts to the radio, and the computer box under it just in case. Everything plugged right in and it lights up, plays CDs and everything but I don't get any sound from the speakers. I read something about an amplifier needing the remote wire spliced to it, but I'm not sure this car has factory amps. What do you think could be my problem?

I think your car does come with a factory amp rite under the head unit. The Mach 460 system just uses more amps and speakers so it makes me think that even the stock regular radio would still use at least one amp.

OK that box I swapped out was the amp then, I figured as much. The rear speakers are aftermarket, someone did a nice job of installing them too. Would that be the reason I'm getting no sound? I tried running power to the blue wire at the deck and still got nothing. thinking about bringing it to the expert... I dont want any aftermarket decks I like the factory look.

Try this, with the radio pulled out of the dash but still hooked up, try to connect a speaker lead to the wires and then test a speaker. If you are getting a signal right off the radio then you can move down stream of the wiring until you find where it disconnects.

Also, mixing Mach 460 stuff with non Mach 460 stuff can cause problems. ie: the amp you got from the junkyard was part of a mach 460 setup, but your car is not. So the speaker leads will terminate because they are not carried further by the associated wiring of the mach 460 system.

I just went through this on my project car. Had a Mach 460 amp under my radio but the rest of the system was premium sound. So the signal that was meant to go to the back amps never made it that far. In a the 460 setup that amp inside the dash is only used to power the door tweeters, the rear amps would power the rest of the system.

I figured it out - the amp wasn't getting any power. I took the single yellow wire and put it to a power feed, and the radio put out sound like a champ! So I'm going to splice it into the accessory switched wire (yellow/black) and the problem is solved. Maybe somebody else will find this useful. I'm glad I get to keep the factory radio and retain the clean look of the dash.
