95 5.0 upgrades
Hey everyone, wanted to get some of your advice on some upgrades I am interested in. First I am getting a in motor in my car and want to make it sound good. I was thinking new headers but other than that I wasn't sure on brand or type. As looking to lower what type of springs should I be looking for. Any advice would be appricated.

Make it sound good...: Headers, Mid Pipe & Mufflers
HEADERS: You want to get long tube (I use bbk works fine for me get ceramic not chrome <- usually turns blue) MID PIPE: You can try Pro Chamber MUFFLER: Flowmaster 40's series Lowering, You can try echibac lowering springs, you can go with 1.5 no more than 2 inch, then you might need some c/c plates. Other things you might want to do: Gears: 3.73 for 5 speed for 4.10 for Auto Upper and Lower Control Arms (preffer tublar) SubFrame connectors Strut Brace Bar (if you dont already have one) I'll leave the rest up to the other guys here to put in their .2 cent.

I like the 3.73 gears. Another thing is that year model had a hard time breathing you might go with an after market intake and a CAI.

+1 on that aftermarket upper and lower intake, you can go with holley, or get upper and lower intake from an 97 1/2 up explorer 5.0.
once you start modding, there's no stopping... lol ask anyone here.

First off come up with a goal for the car and base your decisions off that. Modding once is cheaper than doing it twice. What type off motor is going in stocker? If so, some of the previous suggestions for manifolds are a bit off. Do yourself a favor use the search function to research things you want to know about after you come up with a goal. Slapping a holley intake on a stock headed, geared car will only slow you down. Again research before buying thats the best info I can give ya for now.

Re: 95 5.0 upgrades
As far as heads/cam/intake go, the choice will depend on what your ultimate goal is going to be. I'm planning TFS Twisted Wedge heads, TFS Stage 1 cam, and Holley Systemax intake later on. The 3.73 ring and pinion is definitely the best all round choice for an automatic and probably also for a manual. It's a great mod that I highly recommend even on a near stock GT. Eibach springs would be a very good choice if you want to lower your GT but beware that you'll need to adjust the camber/caster/toe of the front wheels to correct the alignment and reduce bumpsteer, so consider a set of Maximum Motorsports camber/caster plates with the springs. Tubular control arms, K-member, and A-arms with urethane bushings add strength, tighten the handling, and reduce weight.

He's currently making stock 215HP, the stock heads can go well about 300 HP (crank) , so increase the air flow, will help him alot with the headers and exhuast system. REGARDLESS, OF WHAT HE PLANS FOR THE CAR, HE CAN NEVER GO WRONG WITH LONG TUBE HEADERS, AND EXHAUST SYSTEM. ALSO THE UPPER INTAKE AND LOWER INTAKE, HE CAN ALWAYS WORK FROM THERE. You are right though first come up with a goal for the car. THOUGH, once you start modding, it never stops.. lol

You can get up to ~280hp (crank) using the stock HCI without sacrificing torque lower down but once you add a bigger plenum intake with shorter, larger diameter runners, you can get close to 300hp (stock heads and cam) but you'll lose torque lower down. Simply put, the intake has to match the heads and a large diameter runner intake on restrictive stock heads just doesn't work. At the very least you really need to do the intake and heads together. Then it also makes sense to do the cam swap at the same time. Come up with a plan and then you'll only need to do the mods once.
