95 GT steering rack

Got a question like always. Do the boots in the steering rack hold fluid? Im asking because my rack is leaking from the boot. The boot does have a small hole but if its not supposed to hold fluid I have another issue. It did have p/s fluid which I've read is a big no no. If the seals are bad can I rebuild the rack or do I need a new one?

My passenger side boot is leaking on mine too. Not sure if you could put a new seal in there or not. I have mine zip tied right now

Cool

The boot does not hold fluid and if you have fluid leaking out of the boots you are going to need a new rack, as far as I know there isn't any kit to rebuild your rack so you may have to bite the bullet and get a new rack.

Kinda what I figured. I'm pretty sure something was ran over and hit the rack causing it to leak.

I can hold off for a while I guess. It's not that bad..just drips every now and then and sprays the bottom passenger side in p/s fluid between oil changes. The p/s fluid is hardly affected strangely so I'm not too concerned.

Once I get a carb, radiator, fan/shroud for my camaro, I'm going to park my stang and completely re-do the front end. Ball joints, sway bar bushings, struts, rack & pinion, etc.

All that was just done to mine. My rack started leaking after all that was done. Kind of a never ending battle. My leak is bad, completely empty after 2 days. Only thing i have left besides the a/c leak and I need to get a rear set of stock springs.

Is it possible that one side is pulled on harder than the other in turns..?

I swear I have a tighter turning radius going left..
is it your passenger side boot that is leaking?

Interesting.

The rack just seems packed under the front end to me. I think it's completely possible that when you hit a bump while turning, it stresses the ends of it pretty harshly.

My right boot is also ripped, I don't see any fluid leaking but the boot is wet. Planning on doing the whole suspension at once too.
