32 MPG w/ a 1995 mustang gt!

Today I had a near perfect trip with hardly any stops. 50% interstate or 70mph and 50% highway or 55-60mph.

Yesterday me and my dad drove up to the car shop to get my moms van brakes fixed. He filled up my tank for my last week of summer quarter (woot!). I drive a 70 mile round trip everyday. When I got home, my mom hopped in my car and we went back to town to get the van. (or another 10 miles). I then topped off my tank again and it only took 2.48 gallons to fill it...if you do the math, that's 32.2 MPG!!!

I used to hate my 2.73 gears..I don't know if I want to change them out now!! haha

That's not a scientific way to calculate mpg. You need to do a lot more miles and use up at least 10 gallons to get any meaningful result.
Even if you only squeezed in an extra 1/2 a gallon, your average mpg would have dropped to 26.8 which is quite a difference from 32.2.

bullitt don't ruin my moment lol.

It's the best way to gauge my gas mileage because my odometer doesn't work...

To get a more accurate number, last week I drove 4 days in a row. Then I drove to my gf's house to park it when we went to six flags on saturday.

280 miles plus the 12~ miles to my gfs house and THEN I drove it back to my house on sunday, brought it back up to town when we dropped off the van. That's roughly 312 miles. My gas gauge was almost touching the red line by then, but it only took 11.24 gallons to fill up. (I keep receipts)

That's 27.75 mpg. Still a lot better than I thought it would be. My dad always said it got 20-24 mpg...although he doesn't drive as conservatively as I do.

I'm a little over do for an oil change as well. The plugs and wires are at least 4 years old too.

Still having my 2.73s in my 02 PI motor swapped 96 I average 26-28mpg on most trips with normal bolt ons and Bama tune.

Now If I could only figure out how to get 27mpg with the top down ..

I have a feeling that having the boot on helps a tiny bit and it looks a LOT better. I might end up buying those covers that go over the back seats and make the car look like a 2 seater...(as it isn't already..)

Also, would a style bar help or worsen the aerodynamics? On one hand, it would split the air before it gets sucked into the backseat. On the other hand, the air going under the bar would be moving at a higher rate of speed thus, creating more drag.

I would say if you get said number of miles for a certain numbers of gallons thats your MPG, wont really matter how far you go. Given it is easier to baby it for a few small trips but gas consumption is just that.

I will say the OP is taking some VERY optimistic estimated on his mileage though. You'll be lucky to get mid 20s on the hwy.

I got 24 from mine with city/highway and a little bit of stepping on it then babying it. I'm ok with that.

Actually it does matter. The degree of error becomes smaller the further you go and the more gallons you use.

Exactly. Yesterdays conditions were as perfect as I could hope for in an every day scenario. 92+ degrees, no wind, and almost 0 traffic. I only got above 2k rpm like twice.

I already screwed up my gas mileage for this tank though this morning...
I was running late and was waiting to hop on GA-400. It is a 4-way stop and I was turning right. There was a guy turning left onto where I was headed in a small geo something or another...it was smoking and slow as hell. I didn't want to be behind that so I turned the O/D off, hit WOT, got to about 80mph and turned O/D back on. Didn't see the geo the rest of the way.

Even with the mods that I have, cruising down to see my parents on a weekend (280 miles round trip all highway...keep 'er around 65...) and cruising around town when home, I've gotten well over 300 to a tank and calculated it out to around 26.5-27.
The last time I was home, I raced my brother in his new lexus from a dig three times....even with those three races I still squeezed over 26mpg. These cars are capable of pretty decent mileage.

I always got really good gas mileage in my GT when that was my every day car. It doesnt have many mods but I took good care of it. I got about 25 mpg on average. I always gripe about my Jeep in comparison.

My right foot's usually too heavy to get anywhere near 25mpg. I cruise on the highway at about 75-85mph.

I wish this were true, but it isn't.

In fact, I even made 2 stops monday. 1 to the mall right by the college and one at the walmart in the county I live in.

My normal route takes me down HWY 136, hwy 9 and then cutting onto GA 400 to Lanier technical college in Forsyth county exit 13. That way is 35 miles exactly. Since I went to walmart, I took GA-400 and cut off onto HWY 53, and back to HWY 136 (the LONGER way) its a little over 38.5 miles.

So I was actually being a little less truthful, but I was taking that extra 3.5 miles out of the equation..

Nope. I sit right at 70mph on GA-400 and 55-60mph on the other highways.

We could sit and argue about this all day, man. The numbers don't lie though. I'm not saying I get 30+mpg all the time..in fact I KNOW I don't. Just the fact that I touched 30+mpg is crazy. I couldn't believe it myself when I first calculated it....then came the double and triple checking of that calculation. I wouldn't have posted it at all if I didn't know it was true.

My girlfriend was kind of upset when I told her this. Her 2008 Focus gets 33-35mpg.

I haven't told my dad yet, he gets 26.9 mpg at BEST in his 2007 gt.

He has to drive 30 more miles than me a day...maybe he will trade.
RAISING HELL, HERE I COME.
