Differences between driveshafts

I'm rebuilding my t5 and I want to replace my driveshaft also. There's some marks on it from the brake cable grinding on it (doesn't seem too deep).

I've been given different opinions on aluminum vs carbon fiber shafts and I haven't been lucky on a write up.

Can someone explain the differences between the two and which I should buy.
Thanks

i would assume its all the weight, the carbon drive shaft is gona be lighter than the aluminum. if you have the money i would go with the carbon one. (the new 2013 gt500 will come with one)

I bet those CF one's would cost way too much. Can't go wrong with the tried and true FRPP aluminum shaft for under $300.

I found a website explaining the differences.
And yes, the first CF shaft I found was $900, HA!

With aluminum shafts though, what do I need to look for?

Just buy yourself a new one like I just did. It comes with new high performance U-joints and the yolk for like $280. Used ones are out there but you wouldn't trust the u-joints and end up getting new ones anyways. With a new one you get everything and no worries.

Sweet man, thanks!

Also, I don't know if I've asked you this before or not, but can I see your hood pins with and without the hood locked?

I don't use the hood latch, just the hood pins.

Awesome, thanks man. I was thinking you had the hood like in your signature but your current one works.

Just wanted to get an image before I start on mine.

When I removed my transmission this weekend I could not remove the driveshaft. I had to remove the tranny and shaft and the same time and later had to hammer the driveshaft off.

Found a very noticeable groove on the yoke. Long story short. A bunch of bushings and bears are gone due to low oil (Thanks to inexperienced mechanics - not my choice in the first place) and the rear seal and bushing on the transmission were off/gone and caused the groove.

Tranny is being rebuilt but in the meantime should I A. replace and yoke and U-Joints OR B. New driveshaft.

The stock shaft looks fine but then again it's a reason to replace it.

I'm with him. Also it comes with a new yoke and U-joints.

Trying to save some cash at the moment but...

Aluminum $250-300
VS.
Stock (possibly faulty)
+U-joints ($10 each)
+Yoke ($50-60)

..too bad CF aren't $200!
