What To Look Into Regarding Excessive Fuel Consumption

So I'm trying to get my 1995 Mustang GT to be a bit better on gas cause it should be A LOT better.

Things I've done so far:

- Clean MAF
- Spark Plugs
- Wires
- Fuel Filter
- Cap And Rotor

Question is what else could be causing the car to spend too much gas? I'm thinking of looking into the 02 sensors next. Lastly I don't drive it hard at all, and I'm shifting at 2000rpm's.

I'm really leaning towards the 02 sensors right now, anyone have any insight on how much of a difference these would do to your fuel economy?

I was just about to suggest those. They can have a PROFOUND affect on your fuel economy.

Cool

First question that should be asked is what kind of gas mileage are you getting? And how are you measuring your gas mileage.

I'm having the same issue, interested in what mpg your getting and if your driving in the city or highways? i drive 70 miles round trip daily and get around 20 mpg/ 7 miles to the hwy from home.

Depends on the condition of the existing O2 sensors. If they're ready for retirement, new sensors will make a big difference.

20mpg sounds pretty accurate. What kind of mods are you running?

I'm getting only about 118 miles for a FULL tank of gas, 02 sensors are still the factory ones I believe, and most of my driving is a good mix of city and highway.

And yes I still have my EGR.

Do you have a CEL on? How aggressively do you drive?

I ask the second because when I first got my 94 I drove it like a madman and only got 12mpg(90% city). Now that I had laid off and relaxed I was able to average 21mpg on the highway and that is with 3.73 gears.

My o2 sensors are factory as well . Either I'm really fortunate or just arrogant (my gas mileage doesn't vary much though).
As soon as it starts getting bad though, I'm replacing the o2's ASAP.

Then I suggest you replace your O2 sensors. Worst case scenario your mpg won't improve and you'll have two good O2 sensors as spares.

I do but I got it scanned and it showed up as a coolant tempurature sensor code but I changed it to a new one and it still comes on. And I don't drive agressively at all on my daily commutes since I daily drive my car.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I'll probably change out the 02 sensors asap. I'll let you guys know what difference they make if any.

OK, so you're getting 18mpg instead of 20 which still isn't bad. That does diddly squat to help the OP with his problem.

no shit, i was stating i was getting shitty mpg to and wanted to know what was doing it for him. someone asked what mods i had, just answering. don't get your panties all bunched up. and while i may be getting decent mpg, i should be getting better.

op, have you tried fuel system cleaner? it wont do anything big but i got about 2mpg out of it with my last stang. also, im pretty sure you have a leak in you line somewhere.. have you followed your fuel line back to your fuel filter?
