Couple questions for the 94-95 crowd

I have a buddy with a 95 GT 5 speed and he is looking to put a single turbo kit on the car, most likely an On3 kit. My question is, does anybody run that kit (or another single turbo kit) and still run the smog pump? We have emissions here and eliminating it is not an option. If you still have yours, what did you have to do to keep it?

Second question is, anybody have any thoughts on the TwEECer software vs. Moates Quarterhorse? I did some looking into it and it looks like the quarterhorse is the better of the two. Any thoughts from those in the know?

Finally, it sounds like to run a turbo kit with the stock K-member the frame will need to be notched? Any input or pics of that would help too.

Thanks for the help!!

On nearly all turbo/supercharger kits (that I'm aware of) require the removal of the smog pump. There just isn't much room with it in there. It may be possible to put it in place of the AC, but I'm not sure.
The moates quarter horse is generally favored by the sn95 crowd. The tweecer has more flexibility, but it isn't updated by the manufacture anymore and can be a pain to use.
I believe Steeda recently came out with a nice computer control system for the old 5.0s. Read about it in a Mustang magazine I have a subscription to. Seems worth checking out from what I read.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm really hoping we can retain the smog pump to keep it emissions legal. I'll have to look into that Steeda programmer and see what its all about.

sometimes you can buy a bracket that will move the smog and alternator so it fits.

The Moates QH is just a piece of hardware...you also have to get tuning software..I have Binary Editor and EEC Analyzer..Clint Garrity...its straight forward and fairly user friendly. I believe you can use that software with either the QH or Tweecer...QH is the better of the two by general consensus.

When I converted my 99 V6 to a 5.0 I remember pulling out an electronic style smog pump. I wonder why something like that wouldn't work in place of the mechanical smog pump.

Thanks for the input everyone. I'll have to look into that bracket and see what's available. Smog pumps are kind of a waste as they don't reduce emissions, they just dilute the exhaust. I gave my buddy the 411 on the QH and I think he's going to go that way. It's gonna be a while before he takes the plunge and goes turbo (or blower, he keeps bringing that up). We're looking to make his car kind of a sleeper.

I love sleepers!!!

Actually smog pumps do help, when the combustion gasses leave the cylinder through the exhaust valve they are still ignited, now without a smog pump they suffocate from lack of oxygen, but since a smog pump, pumps fresh air into the exhaust it gives more oxygen for those gasses to keep burning which burns more of the hydrocarbons that are left over from incomplete combustion.

Could look into a top mount supercharger.

Blowzilla Supercharger / Flowzilla Manifold

I thought of running one 'til i decided to go with procharger. Either way i would have deleted the smog pump anyway.. But i see no reason for getting rid of the smog pump if your friend were to go with a top mount blower.

He was lookin at doing a KB supercharger, but turbo seems to be the less expensive route and he doesn't want a centrifugal supercharger.

Plus the turbo is more sneaky (ala less noisy).

KB is more expensive than a turbo?? This is definitely news to me.

A turbo is less noisy while cruising..but as soon as you switch gear at WOT, the bypass valve gives it all away.

The on3 kit is pretty inexpensive so he's lookin at that, and the initial cost is less expensive.

He's not as concerned with the noise at WOT, just the cruisin and idling noise mostly. Me on the other hand, I don't care if you hear me comin at you like an angry Banshee!

Looks like the On3 kit goes around relocating abs module and lines, better choice IMO.

I have the BB Kit and had to relocate abs and powersteering cooler, actually I deleted both. Its not a bad kit at all for the price but does require some work to fit. On3 I hear very good things about them and probably would have went with them, but got the bb kit for a price I couldnt refuse. I believe you can pick a On3 kit up for about 300 hundred bucks more than the BB so thats not a bad deal.
