1994 Cobra Dying

I just installed a cold air intake system from Summit Racing and I cranked it up and it ran fine. I ran down the road a ways and stopped and made sure the filter hadnt fallen off and everything was still tight. I stop at another stop sign and the car idles fine. Then at the next stop sign, it went into its low idle and abruptly dies. I refire it and it instantly comes back. It dies again when I pull into the yard. I crank it back up and it sits and idles perfect. I back up and then pull forward to see if I can replicate the problem. It idled back down, came close to dying, and then surged back and idled fine once again. Any thoughts and ideas would be appreciated! Thanks! And a list of upgrades: Summit cold air intake, under drive pulleys, off road x pipe and flowmaster pipes and mufflers.

If you notice the MAF are sold in a different part number for cold air....I did not have a issue. Just saying. Check for unmetered air.

Some things to consider looking at:

1. did you remove the small screen at the input of the MAF when you installed the cold air kit? Try reinstalling it or removing it to see if it makes a difference.

2. "clocking" the meter properly. Try loosening the clamp holding the section of the kit that the meter is held to and rotate it slightly while the car is running. See if it makes a difference.

3. Is your intake air temp sensor still firmly in place to the cold air kit tubing? What about the vacuum hose that goes to the passenger valve cover at the oil filler spout?

4. Lastly, try disconnecting your car battery, wait a few minutes and reconnect it. Start the car up and let it idle for a few minutes. Take it around for a drive. The idea here is that some computers seem to be more sensitive to change than others; if you give the computer a clean slate to adjust its settings from, it might respond quicker and won't give you as much crap after installing a new part.

Prob air flow disturbance across the MAF. Clocking the MAF housing (if you can) in different positions might help keep the air flowing across the meter consistanly.

Good call but another thing to consider is that some oil from your new filter might have contaminated the MAF sensor. If clocking the MAF housing doesn't solve the problem, you could try cleaning the sensor.

ALL OF THE ABOVE. Keeping that sensor clean is vital to how it works. New filters sometimes have way to much oil on them and that crap gets all over your sensor. Also like mentioned above, disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and reconnecting it and letting the car idle for a while will allow the computer to learn the new setup. As far as clocking your housing I've never tried it but I've heard about it quite often.
