42 lb injectors
Ok so my car is up and running but sounds like its backfiring. A mechanic friend said my injectors could be storing fuel for a secondary explosion. I have Trickflow street heat, twisted wedge heads, long tube headers, 75mm TB, 80mm maf, cam. Could 42lb injectors be too big for my build?

Are you still on 302ci? If so, yes 42's are way too much fuel for what you've got.. I also wouldn't believe what your mechanic friend told you, he doesn't sound very experienced. Unless you've got a chip burnt specific to your combo, or have a tuner that you've had someone tune/tune yourself, you're going to be too rich with those 42's and stock cubes with that top end. You can adjust for them though if you do get a tune and should not have too much trouble running them. It may be a little trickier to get the tune right with them, but it should be possible, especially if they happen to be EV6 injectors.

Yes, you should be running 24lb'ers. The 42lb'ers would have been suitable if your engine combo included a supercharger or turbo.

I about spewed soda through my nose when I read "secondary explosion". Your mechanic friend has been watching too much Fast n Furious lately! No offense.

i would probably spend the money on a good tune instead of buying injectors. 42's are big, but can be tuned to match what is needed. Plus, if you do any other mods down the road you may need the 42's.

I thought about going to Anderson Motorsport and getting a tune & PMS. I kinda figured they were too big but got a great deal on them.

No offense taken 99FIVEOH. I wasn't sure so I thought I would ask about it. Sad thing is he's been a mechanic for 25 years so I'm sure he was trying to make a buck.
