Rear end gears for turbo application???

So a buddy of mine that is very familiar with installing rear end gears offered to trade me his 3.27's for my 4.10's and install them on my car. My car is turboed and I am wondering if his 3.27's will better or worse my situation. Currently the 4.10's are way too much for m turbo. I'm really wanting 3.73's or 3.55's, but am not sure if the 3.27's would be overkill.

lower gears (numerically) will put more load on the engine. More load = more power and faster spool times with a turbo car.

Yes that is what i'm looking for but am not sure if the 3.27's will be (too much load). Like destroy my low end. My turbo isnt that big so i'm sure there wouldnt be much spool time.

From all the threads and people I've spoken to, 327's are like the holy grail gear ratio for turbo applications.

I would try the 3.27s since you have them at hand. Most turbo/supercharged applications use/call for 3.55s..but the difference between those 2 ratios is only a couple hundred RPM at most...

I am getting ready to also do gears this spring. I am gonna go 3.55s. I think they will be just bout perfect in a supercharged car. I am pretty sure thats what most of the termi cars ran from the fractory and they seem to be a good all round gear for them.

The 3.27s would be an excellent choice. Use them.

Alright, thanks for the input. I will be swapping them out soon. Better powerband time for me!

+1. 3.55's and a taller tire. If they aren't enough or to much then you can adjust tire size accordingly. Also, 3.55's will be nicer on the street.

Except that the OP would need to buy 3.55s and he'd also need to buy taller tires, so that's a rather expensive way to go. He can get the 3.27s effectively for free so it makes sense to use them with his existing tires.

I don't think taller tires are even an option for most people. We do have the looks of our cars to consider here and taller tires on an SN95 look like crap! Fox bodies can get away with it but not ours!
