74 and older 351 blocks are stronger not the newer ones.A CR of 8.75-9.0
to 1 should be enough compression for NA and forced induction.make sure you use a forged bottom end on your stroker motor so you lessen the chance of destroying your engine

+1! 1974 and back had the stronger 351 blocks. And make sure you don't go cheap on the pistons, crank, and rods! Definitely want a very strong rotating assembly, and are going to want a big set of heads to support everything.

What car are you planning on putting the 351 in and making your drag car? What is your goal as far as power or 1/4 times go?

I'm doing a similar project once I have the money. I'm going with a 393 and a vortech and shooting to make 800HP on pump gas.

iam going to do it on the 82 mustang see this is were it is weird i want to build it for about 400-450 horse power on the motor for my wife to learn how to drag so that is why i want to know what is the lowest compression i can go but still race it down the quatermile until she can handle that power then i will add nitrous and a blower and be 600-700 what are you going to run your compression at and is 393 more reliabale than what i wanted to do and thats a 351 block too

Oh, well 400-450 HP isn't that difficult with a 351. Right now I estimate my 351 makes over 400 HP naturally aspirated, and that's not stroked.

My advice: find a 351W out of a junk yard, and make sure it is 1974 and earlier, lower miles would be nice. You obviously will want to bore it, 30 over most likely. Find a good stroker kit for it, 393 stroker kits are cheaper than 408 and would be good for what you want. MAKE sure it is all forged internals, including pistons. Anywhere between 9:1 and 9.5:1 compression will be good. Now right there with just the 393 engine you will be making your 450 goal. After your wife gets accustomed to driving fast, I would suggest going with a vortech T-trim supercharger. At about 10 PSI, you would be making over 600 HP. You don't need nitrous at all. If for some reason you wanted more power, then you could always turn up the boost on the supercharger.

You are only going to need around 10 lbs. of boost to meet your goal, and that isn't all that much. You won't have any problems going with 9:1 and running 10 lbs.

This might help as well...
