4.30 gear in a street car??

i've got a wild idea to put a 4.30 in my car after talking to kelby at harris racing and dale and custom performance. they both told me that if it were theirs they wouldnt put anything taller then a 4.10, and kelby said that a guy came to him last week and asked him to take his 4.10 out and put a 4.30 in....this car is my daily driver but i dont drive much...about 20 miles a day maybe. i'm not worried about gas mileage, i stopped caring when i got a v8. my only concern is my rear end. i know the 8.8 is strong, but should i upgrade to a 31 spine detroit locker when i do this? or should i be worried at all?

I dont think that you need to go with 31 slpines because I dont think that it will be any harder on the axles or carrier. Dont expect to take it on the freeway though.

might as well do the 31 splines, but no higher then 4:10's. Its a waste of time unless is a really high reving track car.

+1!

unless you don't like going high speeds, go with the 3.73!

+2.
With a 4.30, your tach will be showing ~2650rpm at 70mph in 5th and the intermediate gears will be way too short. The 3.73 is the right way to go unless you're building a high revving engine (redline above 6500rpm and maximum HP above 6000rpm).

id say get 4.10's if you never pull the car above 120. id say get 3.73 if you want to go faster than that top end with a nice pull
